GalCiv 3 and 8gb machines

I have seen a couple of comments around the internet that 8gb of memory is not enough to run GalCiv3.  Specifically running GalCiv3 on largest map size available with many other races.  Has anyone been able to do this or is there a limitation?

I myself have a 8b Razer Blade (2014 edition) and play all the time although I have not ever started a game on the largest map with may opponents because I do not want to get have way into it and then it fails to run anymore and secondly because it would seem those games could take a long time to play with lots to manage.

Thanks

If it fails, it fails on creation.

If you run into problem, it will be slowyness.  The turn changes will be extremely slow, but that's also dependant on CPU power.

Insane map with about 100 factions will use anywhere from 8-12 GB memory on top of any OS memory being used.  Like Falkoner says if it fails it will fail right away.  Other than that long turn times usually happens with exploration treaties so avoid them as with that many factions and exploration treaties with many can slow turn time down to 5+ minutes otherwise without exploration treaties most of my turns are less than 30 seconds.

I upgraded from 8GB to 16GB during the beta and saw a huge increase in performance on the big maps. Turn times dropped from 30+ seconds down to 3-4 even several hundred turns into the game.  I highly recommend upgrading RAM if you want to play on those huge maps.

I also upgraded from 8 gig to 16 gig. I saw a noticeable increase in performance as well. Multi core processors do well with GCIII. More threads = faster turn times. I play on Insane with 50+ factions.

Yeah the excessive, and Insane weren't made for 8gb in mind. Even though disabling steam overlay, and running cleaner helps.

So it sounds like it will run under 8gb but performance will suffer?  Just curious, when you guys run with 50+ factions are you using something like Gauntlet's Race Mod for variation?

No I just download from steam.

Nope just use my 50 or so factions I created plus some other workshop factions that I've subscribed to. All my factions use the in game tool and are available on the workshop.

I use Gauntlets race mod. NO issues. the ships are beautiful. I also use some of Seilore's races as well.

Oh and a few of those naked factions that you have to down load from elsewhere, those are always fun when you see them!

Running on 8gb is possible, but has limits and performance issues.  16gb improves performance on a medium rig for all map sizes and makes insane with many factions possible or more possible, but it does not make up for a medium processor, especially with many factions.  Gauntlets Race Mod does not seem to add terribly to the load and looks as good as Stardock stuff or better.
