Game Not Ending Bug Is Back 1.61

The bug that was keeping the game running in the background has crept back up in 1.61.  If you exit the game while in a game the game continues to run in the background.  This doesn't happen all the time but, I've noticed it more and more in 1.61 again.

Thanks for the report.  We'll see if we can reproduce this internally and fix it.

I haven't experienced this but with my initial game started with the opt-in, this latest patch has caused a lot of pausing at random moments. CPU and RAM usage aren't going nuts and are quite low for my system. Not sure if it's because I didn't start a new game or if it's part of the update.

Can you be more specific?  For example, what was happening the last time it paused?  Do these the "random" pauses reproduce if you load a save game?

Sure, sorry, wasn't really "beta reporting" as opposed to just commenting. Happens when scrolling around on the map while zoomed out, sometimes while some of my ships are moving, etc. When it happens isn't very consistent but it does continue with loaded saves. Playing on a huge, tight clusters map with only 12 other major and random minors. Custom races are used but no mods to game play are used at all. If I see any type of pattern emerge I'll let you know.

I was able to reproduce twice by starting game, then going back to the main menu.  After that I started new game.  Played several turns, exit game.  Game continued to run.

In order for me to reproduce I started up the game,  Started new game.  Played a few turns, went back to the main menu, Started New game (not through quick start although I don't know if that would cause it too.) Played 25 turns (I don't know if this really matters how many turns played).  Exited the game.  The memory dropped by about 2GB usage (14GB to 12GB).  The computer showed the game still running in processes but, not as an active program.  Force closed the process, memory dropped all the way down to normal running pc levels (3GB).

  That fits what I recall.

  Start new game twice in a row without playing, or just playing for a turn or 2, did not do it for me though.  Don't have time right now to play 2 games for 25 turns each.

How are you exiting the game?  Are you going back to the main menu, hitting Alt-F4, etc.  

What map settings/factions are you choosing?

Exiting game through the exit game option in the menu of the game.  I do not usually go back to the main menu to exit the game.

I am normally playing on Insane maps with as many players as I can with abundant settings on most items.  (godlike ai in current game).

 

 

Another thing I've noticed is hidden memory appears to be used after all game processes end.  Yesterday I started the game with about 2.8 GM memory being used, started the game and exited, in that case it ended completely.  However, my memory usage then was at 3.6 GB, somehow I was using extra memory  (now that may be something the system does that I'm unaware how that works but, I was just wondering on that.

  I play on Gigantic map, custom faction, all but Snathi as majors.  I also get excessive memory use and the graphics slowly gain brightness until they become washed out and I have to quit/restart.  The game also pauses / hesitates (and sometimes crashes the system) when one of my scouts uncovers something new under FoW.

   I exit normally, exit to main menu then quit.

   I usually quick start, unless I am looking to tweak something, in which case I choose new game.

   My guesstimate is that this has to do with RAM used for graphics not being allocated / released properly, especially when loading from within the game or starting a new game.
