Steam Custom Faction Achievement

I just won a game as a custom race I designed and the steam achievement did not trigger. :( Has this happened to you?

I reported this during the beta and was told "It works for us".  I'm not sure if Stardock ever investigated further.  I also experienced the problem with 1.0.  Both of those times, if it had been working correctly, I would have gotten the custom faction achievement and one of the achievements for a victory type - cultural the first time, alliance the second, and what happened was that I got the victory achievement but not the custom faction.  So I was wondering if maybe the game had a problem with reporting two achievements at the same time.  Did that happen to you?

I really have nothing more to say than Publius on this except that I did it in 1.01 opt in and did not receive the custom faction victory achievement although like him, It was along with other victory achievement triggers.

Same here.  I thought it was because I was using a race designed in 1.0.  So I redesigned it and am trying again.

More info:

I got an influence victory and this achievement did register.

I was using the Altarian tech tree.

I just won my 3rd game with a custom race (out of a total of 5 games won in the Metaverse) and still have not gotten this achievement.

This time, unlike my previous posts on the subject, I won with a victory condition I had already achieved, so my notion that the problem might be caused by the game failing to process multiple achievements at end of game is shot down.

Same issue. Won several games now with custom race, in different ways, no achievement.

I won my 4th game with a custom faction.  This time I tried one using the Altarian tech tree instead of the default basic tree, but that didn't make any difference.  I still didn't get the achievement.

After my last game I ran a Steam verify files and it replaced 9 files.  So, hoping that there was a problem there that would fix this achievement problem, I tried another game with a newly defined custom faction, and once again failed to get the achievement.

I'll make another note about this.

One possible difference between my setup and yours at Stardock is that I have GC3 installed on my D drive, and my Documents folder (thus including my My Games folder) mapped to my D drive.  If the code that registers the Steam custom faction achievement is (for some reason) looking for files in those folders on the C drive it could cause problems.

I, too, have not received the custom faction achievement. My Steam stuff is installed on the F drive. No clue why it would matter, but mentioned it since Publius mentioned installing it on his D drive.

All other achievements seem to be working fine.

I mentioned it because when I brought this up during the beta the response from Stardock was "It works here" and I've been trying everything I can think of since then to figure out what could be different on my system, where it clearly doesn't work.

Don't worry so much. It's obviously real when multiple people start reporting the same problem.

I'm not worrying, I'm trying to debug it for them.

I got the achievement yesterday with a conquest victory, tiny map, one enemy (Yor), win in under 200 turns (got that achievement too).

Maybe that helps.

My GalCiv is also installed to my D drive, not C.

Is your My Games folder on C or D?

Since the custom factions are stored in My Games\Galciv3\Factions (or something like that, I'm going from memory here, not at my gaming machine) that could be the problem for me and the others who've seen it.

I'm having the same problem. Everything is installed on my C drive and I've won several games with a custom race, but no achievement.  :(

Please run the support tool (Linked below) to gather your files, but also make sure to send us your custom factions, and if you have a save game with those factions being used, send it as well. Then submit a ticket: https://esupport.stardock.com/index.php?/default_import/Knowledgebase/Article/View/496/161/general-galactic-civilizations-iii-troubleshooting#support

On the 1.1 opt-in beta, with a custom faction created in-game on 1.1 at the beginning of the game, without saving and reloading at any point (I used a tiny map to try to recreate), I got the achievement.  So now there's no way for me to do any further testing.

If I recall correctly, all my previous games that had failed to award the achievement had been multi-day games where I'd saved, quit the game, and then loaded the save another time, and of course all had been on code levels lower than the current 1.1. beta.
