Part way through my game the colonizers ability is no longer giving me a free building when I colonize a new planet. I'm pretty sure during my previous game I colonized even more planets than I did this time and it kept working then.
I have not played with this trait for long personally. However, I did notice it will not work for unique buildings(colony unique, player unique, or galaxy unique). It will rush the first non-unique queued though so your issue may be valid. You should submit a ticket if it is not working at all after a certain point.
There are 2 issues then. For quite awhile it was allowing me to quick-build big-ticket items, like the Detrium(sp) factory. Now, it pretty much only works on basic factories, not even solar factories. FURTHER, you can't experiment to see what it'll quick-build, because once you cancel a building, ANY other building you try no-longer gets a quick-build. IE, click to build a basic factory and it's quick-build, but cancel it and then re-do that building and it'll then take the full build time.
It only works for basic items, factory, lab, farm, market, consulate, entertainment center. I think that's all. If it was allowing you to build anything else that was the bug and it is working as intended now.
Oh yeah, it will also rush build a shipyard if you choose it first.
BTW, the first patch is supposed to fix it to allow you to cancel a rush and pick something else.
