Beta 5.3 opt-in early feedback

Although I haven't been able to play much at all, I want to first complement the GC3 team for all of the polish I can see that went into 5.3. The difference is tremendous! I really like the little type symbols next to planets: aquatic, etc - great touch! Game: immense, uncommon planets, uncommon habitable, spiral, everything else default, 16 majors and various minors. I'm playing a custom synthetic race.

Noticed items:

  1. In the Custom Race creation, the tooltip boxes for trait descriptions have been expanded (yay!) but traits are still being cut off after 2 lines (aww).
  2. The Adventurous trait runs out of room in the tooltip title area. All you see is Adventuro(+1).
  3. Mining resources are now white instead of colored. Was this on purpose or is this an artifact/bug? I haven't started mining one, so do they turn their appropriate color when being mined (this would be a neat touch too)? The symbols are still the correct color on the tooltip description.
  4. About the little icons on top of planets (not sure what all they indicate...): when I zoom in or out and then stop the view, these icons jiggle a bit before stopping. I've also noticed the influence borders do something similar. It's quite noticeable and a bit jarring. I have anti-aliasing off so that may contribute.

I decided to opt out on 5.83 since I like 5.82 better. The resources don't give you as much and armor doesn't work the same. I liked how armor gave a little defense against energy and missiles. That made more sense to me than just protecting against guns. Armor plating would have some resistance to energy beams and missile impacts where as shields or point defense systems really wouldn't protect against projectiles. I hope they change their mind on that one and leave it like it is in 5.82.

It also seemed to introduce some bugs with resources losing their colors in the map when zoomed out and the world list on the right losing it's planet icons.

I also didn't like the changes in AI behavior for the other races. I played as the Alterians with the Thalans as the closest empire next to mine. The Thalans ignored their own sectors for the most part and started moving into and over my territory. I ended up in race for worlds and resources with them. They were pretty far from their homeworld with many colinizable worlds that were much closer being ignored in favor of taking worlds that should have been mine. I've never had anything like that happen until I opted into this latest beta and I didn't like it at all so I opted out.
