Having a really 'fun' time.

Just to let all you developers know. I am having a great time. I am playing on 'Excessive' and have added 4 more Majors for a total of 12 races including me playing as Terrans. Also I have included all Minors.

Excessive size

'uncommon' on both regular planets and extreme habitability.

Loose clusters.

Resources set to occasional

Black Holes are rare. (anti-mater hard to find here.)

Game pace normal, research is slow I think.

I am about 200+ turns into the game. I have not had crashes but turns at this stage have indeed slowed down and I am not sure how to fix it. I have 16 gigs ram, I set my page file to 32 gigs. I am on an SSD and my video card is a 970 GTX (4 gigs on board it)

Play wise the game is fun. The AI is FUN to play against for me. It is set to Normal and it is doing what I expect. Altarians are obviously persuing a Tech victory and I need to address that soon. Drengin and Yor both DWC'd me as soon as I met them and both are top of the power chart. Fortunately I am out of range for now.

So I have an issue that I cannot figure out how to fix. I have met 3 of my created races AND I have met the Altarians, Drengin and the Yor.

I have not met the Krynn, or any others. One thing very odd.....

I have not triggered UP elections yet!!! NONE.

We have 7 factions in play but no United Planets forming or Elections.

I can upload a save game or the bug finder thingy stardock uses or if its supposed to be this way I just need to know... I am pretty sure the Altarians and the Yor know about each other. They are 'next' to each other yet the Dreging are Far across the Galaxy and I think I am the only one who ran into them.

I just created my first 'support' ship with help on Targeting, Missile assist and Jamming. I am going to fleet it up with my 'missile focused' ships and see how I do against the Yor. ...

(cant wait to get home and away from my work....)

Hey Larsenex, I can totally relate! Got some free time today to play and am having a blast. To put the icing on the cake, I also got to see, for the very first time, and after playing many hours in all versions of the game, got to see my star!!! It actually had a planet that you could colonize with the proper tech. It's a class 16 (Lush) planet, unfortunately, it happens to be quite toxic... lol How appropriate!

I'm surprised that your game is running slow. I have no page file, same amount of memory and video card as you, and a i7 4790K CPU. I'm currently on turn 413 with all majors and minors plus the custom race a created for myself. I think the longest I've waited has been maybe 20-25 sec. I hope you get it figured out!

Yea my turn times are not really long at all, about the same as you or less. I am looking at the patch and wondering if I can keep my current game...

I have also noticed that the UP didn't start meeting until after turn 200. Then when it started it was frequent! (I have it set on the default.) I am now on turn 260 or so and have had quite a number of UP meetings.

I am playing on Immense with all the standard races, three custom races and minors (I have seen three minors so far). I don't see a drastic slowdown - I do have to wait a few seconds on turns, tho. I have 16 gb but no SSD --- it's a 4 year old Dell xps 8100 with a standard 1 tb HDD. Intel core i5 650 3.2 ghz.

As far as the AI is concerned, I have them all set on normal (I am playing as Iconians) and I am beating them flat, no challenge at all. It was interesting to have the Drengin, Yor, and Borg (custom) all make a DoW on me by surprize on the same turn, but I am now bulldozing their systems. Titans vs Cutters need I say more.

Support ships do help a lot, imo, but then I am not really facing a challenge.

I am facing the power bug though...my power was locked at 999999 for many turns, then changed to zero and stayed there. Tough getting an alliance win that way. (I have sent a ticket).

EDIT: Oh I forgot to say....yeah, having a ton of fun, like OP says.

I finished my first game with Beta 5 last night and I have to agree that it was a lot of fun. I made my own custom race, played against the Drengin, Thalans, Altarians, and Krynn with about 6 minors in a large galaxy. I was in the middle of the map with the Drengin on the left, the Thalans on the upper right, the Krynn on the lower left and Altarians on the lower right. The Drengin declared war very quickly and the Thalans a couple of turns later, so I fought and beat the Drengin while doing a holding action against the Thalans. Got a cultural victory a couple of turns before I could take the Thalan's last world.

In my Beta 5 games, I have always had the UP start.

I haven't kept track of the turn number when it does start, but it definitely does.

I suspect that the UP meetings are affected by how we set up our galaxies and how we explore. I meet the other races fairly soon and my UP triggers up fairly soon after.

I'm glad it's okay to have fun now. It used to be officially denied, but I was having fun anyway.

This is the first version of the game where I would say the fun is definatley there, don't get me wrong, it still needs a lost of balancing, tweaking and fixing in places but it really starting to feel like a fun game as it is and gives me faith it will be a great game when it's finished Beta 5 is a massive leap in fun from Beta4.

As and Update, I met the Thalans and next turn I got the notice that UP elections will occur in 5 turns!

Also the Yor who I am at war with waited a bit too long. They allowed me to build a few fleets and I have intercepted several of theirs and destroyed them. I will march my Justice to their doorstep!
