MoO2's tactical combat (optional as it is) is loads of fun, I won't deny it. As fleets got larger and stronger, it also became more time-consuming.
I would love a new game in the spirit of MoO or MoO2 but I'm not looking to GalCiv to fill that role, and I am okay with that.
GalCiv's combat was basically, have your fleet stack attack an adjacent fleet stack. There'd be weapon sounds and explosions and both sides suffer damage. If you have movement points left, you can attack again and again until you run out of movement or enemies.
GalCiv2's combat is also auto-resolve but you got to see the ships fighting without being able to directly influence or participate.
