Having to build 2 constructors to do anything with a Starbase is annoying. Yes, generic starbases are indeed useful for extending the range of your ships, but having to build two constructors just to get them to do anything else beyond that is very annoying and time-consuming. Constructors are expensive, and basic Starbases are not exactly well-defended. If this is a matter of balance, then the way Starbases are balanced needs to be retooled so this can happen, because right now, building Starbases isn't fun. It could be. It should be. This would be a step in the right direction.
Also, while we're at it, I heard from somewhere that the number of constructor modules you put on your constructor vessels would directly translate into how many modules the starbase received upon construction. That idea sounded great. I know it's barely post-alpha, so this might not be intentional, but that's not how it works right now -- you could have 4 constructor modules on a single constructor, and it'll still only reward one module when you burn that ship to create a starbase (I haven't tested to see if it also does this while upgrading). That was a great idea, though. Let's do that.
