Although this sounds like a bug reported during alpha and stated as fixed in the Beta 1 build, it is also possible that this could be a driver issue, Check the hints in the Support FAQ for how to troubleshoot and/or report it.

Playing as Drengin and the game crashes from time to time. The issue is not reproducible though. 

Played a couple of playthoughs with other factions already, but these sessions were stable. The only difference

is that I own now a lot more of planets then in the previous games. Assuming that might cause some trouble.
