Is Entrenchment Worth It?

Many of the review websites I have gone to say that it is a good expansion and well priced at $10, but probably just as many say tthat it isn't worth it and doesn't bring enough to the table. I am also a little uncomfortable with the fact that it can only be downloaded. And once aquired, is it a seperate game that you open up, or just permanent updates to the original?

its a seperate game on its own, you can easily go back to vanilla if you want to, though most people dont, entrenchment brings a lot more than just starbases and mines, there are a lot of underlining things that got changed that bring a lot to the table

Ok, thanks a lot, do you personally recommend it, though?

Yes he does. As do I.

lol, especially because the GREATEST MOD EVER for sins is the Distant Stars mod is currently only for Entrenchment (though we eventually will get it ready for Sins Vanilla) I highly recommended

DEFINITELY recommend it. go for it! 5* (five stars)

If you are expecting a full expansion like some of those bad reviews probably were, you will likely be disappointed. If you follow the title that it's a microexpansion that provides a major overhaul to a specific area, its probably well worth it. One thing to consider is that many of the mods are now entrenchment only (though that may change when diplomacy comes out).

I personally like it very much, but keep in mind mostly everyone posting is a Sins fanatic.

What is in distant stars?

Definitely worth the money, no matter if you play single player or online.

I personally was a bit unsure about software that is available for download only but now I like it - I can play wherever i want, just download it and start. No need to carry my CDs to my parents or my girlfriend. If i remember correctly there is also an option for creating an offline archive that you can use to install the game on a PC that has no internet connection.

its a mod for the game that expands the research and gives you some serious battleships

Entrenchment is definatley worth it. Starbases are a massive improvement to the game and add a significant strategic layer to the game. Also probably 90% of online games are on entrenchment, if you ever get the itch to play versus real people (which you should because its great fun).

It is a separate game to vanilla, and you will still be able to play vanilla sins at will. If the downloading makes you uncomfortable just back it up to a cd the first time you download it.

Who doesn't love sinning? :P

...I mean, who doesn't love playing Sins of a Solar Empire? Pretty much everyone, as this is the offical site. Not much reason to keep sinning around otherwise.

Is it worthwhile?  Personally, I think that depends on whether you play the game in single player or online multiplayer and what you want out of the game.

With a name like "Noobkiller" we can only assume that you play the game online against human opponents and that you're pretty good at it.  A "Noobkiller" who only plays againt AI is a contradiction in terms since someone who plays it against AI only is by definition a noob.  (Just telling it like it is, I don't mean any offense to anyone.)

If that assumption is correct and you play it in online multiplayer, then my answer is "Yes--get Entrenchment".  Most of the online multiplayer action is for Entrenchment and it's where you'll find the 4v4 and 5v5 games.  The overwhelming consensus amongst online players is that Entrenchment is better than regular Sins.

Now, if you play in single player against AI then it becomes more complicated.  First off, you could download free custom mods and other content to expand the game instead of getting Entrenchment.  However, according to some people, many newer mods are for Entrenchment only.  Secondly, the AI doesn't do a very good job of dealing with the Starbases and other additional things in Entrenchment so Entrenchment might make the game less challenging for that reason--the AI won't be as tough in Entrenchment since it might suicide itself on starbases or it could spam out its own starbases and fail to manage and protect them properly, wasting credits that could have gone towards having a larger fleet.  The starbases and other changes in Entrenchment are a good idea and really add additional strategic considerations to the game, but at the same time it ends up weakening the AI.  If you don't really care about that and think adding additional strategic considerations to the game would be worthwhile then consider getting Entrenchment.

In that case, get Entrenchment.  You won't feel badly about having dropped $10 on it when you see that you can play in the 4v4 and 5v5 games and that there are more games with better settings available.

Ok, thakn you everyone, and I will probably get it by the end of the year at the latest, but one more thing, I had a problem downloading Impulse, and it doesn't exactly work, so do I need Impulse to download Entrenchment?
