ship defenses working?

Awesome news that the new beta is out!  Sounds like lots of great enhancements.  But i didn't see any mention of ship defenses being enabled.   Please tell me they are working now.  Not having them really hurts playability imo.

They are implemented. I just do not know to what extent they are actually working.

Thanks for the reply Larsenex.  I guess I was hoping beta2 would at least offer an improvement.  Maybe it will - haven't had time to try it yet.

I am REALLY excited about Beta 2,  however I am totally engrossed in another game (SWToR) at the moment. I also know that we will get a 'bug' patch next week so I am holding off delving deep into the game again till next thursday after they fix some glaring bugs already being reported (Production relic, Display lines of trade routes, various CTD's).
