Hello guys.
I have hit some difficulty with the shipyard. I think it is best to describe what I was intending to do first. I am a fan of the Star Carrier series, in that series the ships are characterized with a large shield cap and resemble mushrooms. The shield cap is the front of the ship. My Avatar has one of my GC2 renderings of a ship from that universe.
In order to make a ship like that I try to setup a spine of some sort and build off that.
Left and right and up and down symmetry is very nice and I was able to make a nice shield cap using that but I had some trouble after that. As I tried to make the spine I found that the parts didn't line up and I was making adjustments in the offset for each and every part. Then when I decided to rescale a part I had to change all of them. I know that I can group all the parts and once I get it right I can reuse, but it would be nice if I could get parts to center on an arbitrary axis. I guess that would be an absolute offset instead of an offset off the mounting point.
(I am now wondering if we can already do that and I haven't figured it out. So many new features.
)
The next problem I had is that behind the shield cap, the ships from that universe have a rotating section or two. I was able to add that easy enough but now I want to put some decorations around the outside of the rotating section. As I add them, they do not line up axially. Instead they each line up according to the vertical axis. In GC2 each hard point would be lined up axially and every part would then stick out like spokes from the center. But in GC3 I have to go around and manually adjust each one and this makes the whole affair tedious.
I normally like to make suggestions on the best way to fix the issues but in this case there are just too many unknowns.
