please help - windowblinds font issue

Hey all,

I'm having some trouble getting certain fonts such as 'kroeger' to display properly in skins running on windowblinds 6 - i have attached a screenshot here:

It only started happening very recently, after discovering msimport and installing some mss styles on windowblinds the fonts started messing up - often on the imported mss styles too. Could this be the reason? Should I uninstall all my mss skins? Might I have accidentally changed some font settings.. or something?

So anyways - your help would be greatly appreciated

It is possible that when you installed msimport and the mss styles.  Just uninstalling the mss skins may not fix the problem if it changed stuff.

What OS are you running?

If you want to see if there is a conflict with WindowBlinds I would suggest using the restore function and go back before you made these download.  If everything goes back to normal then I would say the programs are not compatible.  If it doesn't then you may have another problem.  Using restore should reset everything, even font settings, back to when things were running okay.

Lots of talent and knowledge in the forums so lets see if someone comes up with a different approach to your problem.  I would wait until doing what I suggest and see if someone else posts.

This might be a dumb question [on my part ] , but have you made certain the fonts are still installed?

You have to make sure the fonts are being told to install from the setting within the WB, conversley you can also install them in your fonts folder of windows and that should do the trick too.. also, make sure cleartype is on.

looks like the font got changed to one im not familiar with.

In WB config window under the "look and feel" tab select "fonts", then look to see if "allow the skin to decide the fonts" is selected. If it is then the skin is setting the font, if not select it and apply and see if this sets the fonts back.  You also can change fonts within this window, if you would like to use another font * tho this will not actually change the skins chosen font but will over ride it for all skins used.

At the very bottom of the same window is a link to open the Font config menu for the specific skins fonts and edit the skin fonts directy if you wish.

You can also use SKS to edit the fonts for each skin.

Hi, thanks heaps for your help and quick replies, but unfortunately I still haven't found an answer...

Tailsgirl, don't worry I'm full of dumb questions - yep the fonts were installed and have been uninstalled and installed again - no change

Philly0381, I'm running xp. Now my turn for a dumb question, this restore function you speak of, is that part of windowblinds or the actual restore function for xp? Because I'd rather not restore my system at all (by the problem being 'only very recent' i meant it happened a couple of weeks ago) its not that big of a problem though, I could always just use the 'pretend it never happened solution' offered by HG Eliminator and change the fonts to ones that still work.

VStyler, by having "to make sure the fonts are being told to install from the setting within the WB", are you simply asking the same question as Tailsgirl or have I just asked another dumb question? I also managed to turn on cleartype which was previously off, but that only made things worse with the affected fonts, all the letters in the messed up fonts have gone slightly blurry - staring at them for too long makes me dizzy and fall over... (don't worry I made that last bit up to amuse myself)

I could always just use the 'pretend it never happened solution' offered by HG Eliminator and change the fonts to ones that still work.

 

aww comon now.    hehe .  I added you could edit the skin directly with the link at the bottom of the window. This should allow you to tell the skin which Font to use, it sounds to me like its not finding the one you wanted. But If the correct one is listed as the default and is still not being utilized, then Im at a loss, Vstyler would be the one to tell you then.

Hehe, HG ELiminator, what I said I meant in the nicest way possible (with a touch of silly) - after all your solution is the only one have at the moment! I tested the windowblind pictured with a couple of other fonts, nice, but its always nicer to have it appear as the creator originally intended it to - sorry for being difficult. The right fonts are also properly selected in the fonts window.

I've also attempted to delete everything mss related from my system - msimport is gone as well as all the visual styles imported with it - yet still no change.

It almost seems like my computer has trouble resizing the font or somthing.

Oh my golly, I did it! I decided to check out the preview of this skin submitted by the creator when it was released. The first thing I noticed was that all the text was in capitals, mine was in lowe case - so I opened up the fonts window  and set the 'caps' version of Kroeger to the skin (I have both lower case and upper case versions of Kroeger installed). I clicked "apply changes" though the font was still messed up. I then opened up microsoft word next to the preview, and using Kroeger, I tried to find the same font size used in the preview - I found that size '6' was perfect in that it was the same size as in the preview and the letters finally displayed properly. So i went over to the fonts window and set all Kroeger fonts for the skin to '6' - I applied but found that the fonts were tiny now, unreadable - smaller than in the preview, uggh, so I then decided to up the font. I chose font size '8' and clicked 'apply changes'. And just like that, the font was finally perfect again!

Hahah, so thankyou again to all who replied and thankyou for all your willingnes to help me out
