I'm thinking of creating a map based on our solar system.

Nothing too fancy, I suppose. I'm thinking a spiral outwards from Sol in the order of Volcanic, Gas, Terran, Desert, Asteroid Belt, Gas, Gas, Gas, Ice, Ice, Pirate. I'll put a Asteroid here or there for Luna or Io... by the way, what's the difference between Desert and Desert Home? Population and expansion slots? And how do you add rings (for Saturn)? And are there different Gas Giant colours?

Anyway, I mostly made this topic to ask questions and get suggestions. Such as: how should I balance it? I want to keep the route from Sol to Pirate as direct as possible... maybe have players start in another system and migrate there?

Anyway, suggestions welcome and hoped for.

Sounds great! I was actually just thinking about doing this when I saw your post! I will definitly love to see the results of your efforts. As far as suggestions, I have not yet played around with the Galaxy Forge. I'll check it out over the weekend and let you know if I have any suggestions.

Hmm... Earth is likely to be the crown jewel of the Sol System (except for the Advent, who will be more interested in Mars) so actually balancing this might be difficult. Also, I would suggest making Venus Volcanic and Neptune Gas (It's Uranus, then Neptune, right? I always forget those two)

If possible, I would also make it the center of a few other systems. Alpha Centauri, Tau Ceti, Epsilon Eridani, Epsilon Indi, Sirius, Procyon, Delta Pavonis, the works. These are stars with potential inhabitable planets.

More on topic, I suggest you use the moons of Jupiter and Saturn as filler to space out the planets. Just because we only have 9 planets doesn't mean there should be only 9 gravity wells in the map. Another good idea would be to use famous asteroids (Ceres) for planetoids as well.

it would be semi easy to set it up but how would you set the lanes? would they all connect to each other, or were you planning to have them all in a series?

too bad we cant adjust the planets physical size to match..but oh well.
