Don't look too hard for a 12/16 update because there is none. The flu has infected everyone in my own family with high temperatures. Dad may have it also and seeing a doctor tomorrow morning. Scott's back continues to improve but still a factor. I wish I had some encouraging news about Mom, but I don't. The blood clot filter and tube to the right lung were successfully done today. The sedation Mom is under doesn't allow for much response. She's resting quietly. Pray that the blood clot in the pulmonary artery dissolves, the fluid and pnuemonia leaves and the she's able to get off the respirator later this week. Saturday, 12/13/03, Mom ended up going back on the respirator. Vital signs were acting up again and indications of pain and discomfort were evident. The fluid in the right lung continues to cause problems with the breathing. Sunday, a cat scan was done. A tube will have to be put in the right lung for draining. Also, a restricting blood clot of the pulmonary artery was detected. This is a profound concern. A "filter" will be placed in a vein in the hip that will filter the blood c

Thank you for visiting us today for the update. Having to log on to the site instead of getting the email update takes a little more effort. The reality is my email buffer was overloaded. This allows people to see some of the comments I get to read. Mom today was moved to the "step down" ICU wing. The potential of life threatening incidents occuring has been minimized I guess. I'm not all that convinced yet. Mom is off the morphine with occasional dosages of pain killer as needed.

Fathering attributes are mainly protection, provision and love. God continues to demonstrate them with Mom today. As of 3 pm, Mom was no longer being given any morphine. As of midnight, this was still true. She has been determining the number of breathes per minute, not the respirator which is down to 15 (was 20) that aides in pressure for the lungs. Mom had the tracheotomy at 10:45 am along with the feeding tube going directly to her stomach. All went well. Once the drugs wore off around 3pm, they started weaning Mom back off the respirator to the point of where she was at before surgery. All the tubes are now out of her mouth and nose! Today was a good day in that Mom is continuing to breathe on her own for the most part with some help from the respirator. She is going on 49 hrs with little assistance. The tracheotomy is last on the surgery schedule for tomorrow so I estimate mid to late afternoon. Mom and God have until then to prove otherwise. Since early this morning, they again weaned Mom from the respirator leaving 20% pressure to help a little. Her vital signs have been stable and strong for most of the day. An antibiotic was administered last night to address the pnuemonia in the right lung. The tracheotomy is scheduled for Wed. morning if vital signs remain stable and she doesn't kick the respirator beforehand. It was another restful day with her music. Vital signs were good and stable all day. The medication and repirator support remained unchanged. Tonight, Mom not only open her eyes 3/4 upon being talked to but also blinked yes when asked if she could see me clearly. Mom is resting well. Her vital signs were good and stable with no surprises or concerns. They will begin weaning her this weekend from the respirator slowly. If she is unable to breathe on her own, they will do the tracheotomy early next week. The meds have not changed any. They seem to have found a good balance to stabilize the heart rate and blood pressure. I would ask you to consider praying for her son, Scott. Today was a restful day for Mom. Her heartrate was strong and stable all day as well as the blood pressure though higher at times than what is preferred. If the vital signs remain stable, they will look to wean her from the respirator slowly starting tomorrow and through the weekend. A cat scan was done this morning to look for any new developments. Good news/ so-so news..... The so-so news is that Mom's blood pressure has skyrocketed to the point that they could not think about doing the tracheotomy or place the feeding tube directly to her stomach. They are having trouble it seems in getting the right balance of medication to control the heart rate and blood pressure at the same time.
