Morale penalties? Can I just make that moot with my awesome Virtual World surrounded by improvements that provide at least +2 to Approval and a bunch of approval relics? I see a flaw in the research production though. There are plenty of real world ideas basically suggesting that the more tech you have, the faster your tech will grow, such as Moore's law for semiconductors or the law of accelerating returns. This implies that research growth should not be line

Having no money only affects the ability to research and build. Ships can still be moved and attack other ships.
In my last game, the AI was impressively mellow. I actually casually reached and alliance victory without even trying. Everyone was suddenly close to me. What really bothers me is how in the world does the faction rating even work? It seems like it relies entirely on military power, which is pretty stupid to me. Sure, the Altarians have a power level of over 90000, but all of their ships are pretty crappy, they have a debt of over -90000, and average rating for everythi
You should be able to hold the control key on your keyboard to multiple select ships. Then, you just have to left click somewhere to move them out or use the eject button ingame.
What pace are you playing the game? I knock out 200 turns in about an hour of game-play on normal and am nowhere near a position to invade anyone.
I play on normal pacing with slow research. Even on insane sized maps with 8 players, everyone is usually in contact by around turn 150, with the exception of maybe if a race is at the opposite corner from me. I also only play on Incredible or Godlike difficulty.</
Wait, what? It takes you 200 turns to meet other races? I wish I were that lucky. 200 turns is the amount of time it usually takes for me to casually get set up and invade the rest of the galaxy.
I personally prefer to micromanage all of my planets, but even though I say that, there is not actually much micromanage to be done. Sometimes, I fail to see how people can complain about too much micromanaging in this game. The most micromanaging in this game comes from cleaning up the hundreds to thousands of ships the other factions have, NOT from taking care of the planets. For the most part, once I use the wheel to set allocations, I am leaving the planet alone until everything is done.
You want fully loaded star bases? You use a Huge Hull with Support Module Mass Reduction. You can pile on 17+ modules and still get around 50 moves to get anywhere fast. This set up costs around 1.5K. On a specialized manufacturing planet, you can crank these out every turn. Yes, this can be achieve mid-game..., but I suppose that depends on what you call mid-game.
Hey everyone. I'm very new to the series and I really need some help. The tutorial does a good job of explaining some things, but in terms of tactics and strategy, I'm lost. I have a list of a few questions that will hopefully guide this discussion. But if you have any other tips that you care to mention that I didn't ask about, please post it. I can use all the help I can get. 1. How should I start the game? &nb
Hows that for an interstellar parking lot? I count at least 6 other races within that section of my borders. None of them are at war with me, or with the others shown in this pic, however most of them are at war with someone else and usually far away from that location. I'm Red by the way. Oddly enough, Light Purple, who has the MOST ships in that area, is actually the least interested party, its space is by
The same thing is happening to me in the current game, and this is actually the first time that it has happened. I am still in 1.3, but I did not have this problem until now. Pretty much every race that is in travel range of my Z0C is just parking about half of their fleet there. A few of them, like the Yor and Drengin were furious with me early on, but now that I have enough diplomatic points to be close to every race, they are not moving their ships at all. It is annoying because th
This carrier problem makes me want to pit my fleet of 108 fighters--or more if I make the carriers useless--against 12 of my best huge ships (optimized for offense against fighters) and see what happens. Can the battle viewer even accommodate that many ships in action without major slowdown/crashing? Wait, does Hyperion Shrinker stack with Precursor tech? I forgot to check. Maybe then 15 carriers vs 15 huge ships.
You could always edit the game's xml files to give you a huge number of credits at the start. This game is extremely mod-able.
I would like to see the following things. 1. Better improvement queueing. I would like to be able to set the queue so that it would complete all of a certain type of improvement or group of improvements before moving on to he next item on the list. For example, if I want all of the manufacturing improvements built first before the research improvements, the queue will keep my manufacturing improvements on top of the list until all improvements and their upgrades are com
Nah. On Godlike mode, you are going to be trailing behind by leaps and bounds for the first 150 turns or so...at least. You do not really need more planets than the AI either. You probably will never be able to outdo them in colonizing with the starting resources anyway (unless the map resources just happens to favor you). it is better to have tight clusters of planets so you can pool their resources into a single shipyard and build less star bases to boost their
I actually had this problem with the Drengin, but it was the reverse. The Drengin's list only had credit, whereas I could trade anything of mines. In that same game, I had my faction power drop to 0 for no reason several times. However, after about 20 turns, everything returned to normal.
Quoting Nilfiry, reply 43 These settings are begging for culture flip. You should not get to that point so quickly - In the couple of games I tried this setup the AIs always went berserk declaring war left a
Yeah, I get it too. It makes me think that I accidentally clicked on the wheel and moved it briefly, but after carefully checking, it was just slightly shifting on its own.

The AI is bad, regardless of difficulty. That much is clear. I only play on Godlike now because the AI is just waiting to be steamrolled on every other difficulty. The AI really needs to learn how to specialize WITHOUT neglecting their other improvements to become more competitive. For example, they need to stop building influence improvements in all of their tiles on all of their planets near ZOC borders. All I need is one planet on Cultural Festival with about 2~3K so
Question: Does the AI consider our ideology based on what we set our race to initially, or the actual choices we make in game? The Altarians won't ally unless we're Benevolent? I created my race as Pragmatic, but often chose and lean Benevolent. What will they recognize?
As far as I have seen, it is the choices you pick in game that determines your alignment. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think
I actually prefer to use the designer to make all of my ships. Presets are terrible and contains too many superfluous components. For example, why build a constructer with a bunch of life support and engine components when you are only sending it three spaces away to become an economic star base? It is better to redesign a constructor, remove all of those unnecessary components, and add another constructor module with the freed up capacity. As for your warfare, just cre
My end game ships all have at least 252 range (overkill but meh), which is more than enough for where ever they need to go. The struggle is only in the mid game where I am focusing my resources on development. No point in over extending if you cannot defend your star bases. But yeah, star base bridge if you cannot wait for better life support like me. My advice is to design your own ships. Never use the default designs as they quite simply suck.
Uh-oh, I already used my culture flip ideology. Time for kamikaze transports. MottiKhan played on Godlike, the highest difficulty. It is in the parenthesis of the first sentence. What we really need is a difficulty rework. Unfortunately, right now, there is a huge disparity between godlike and every other difficulty. In my last game on the difficulty just below godlike and a gigantic map, I purposely waited around for every
The AI should have the same restrictions as the player in regards to diplomacy. I would actually like a way to negotiate peace at the same time a faction declares war on you, instead of having to wait for a cool down before you can talk. I see that we get options for how to respond to a DoW, but they do not make any difference. A third option to talk it over would be nice. "Now hold on a second. Can't we talk this over?" As for the Altarians, they need
