If you (or anyone) ever experience any kind of a major problem, (save and exit if still in-game) then send the debug.err file and (if 100% reproducable) your zipped save game causing the problem in to [email protected]. Will do.
I upgraded to the new 1.0x and experienced a hang when I invaded a planet. The game paused for a while without the Planet Invasion screen coming up then the mouse cursor stopped responding. When I tried to alt-tab out of GalCiv2, the screen went blank and I got nothing. No response to repeated Ctl-Alt-Dels either.
