I always enjoyed his performances, even in the few films he did that I didn't care for.

A recent change (3.95 maybe?) made an AI that surrenders destroy all their planets except their home system. You can change that in the game options, or turn AI surrendering off entirely.
Are you playing as the Korath? They have the Unpopular (-2) trait that penalizes tourism severely. Last time I played a race with that trait I had to build two or more tourism buildings on the same planet to overcome the penalty.
Do they get bonuses to ship speed too? Because I remember rage quitting a game on one of the two highest difficulty levels when my colony ship with ion drive got beat to a planet by an AI colony ship with 22 hexes per move speed. How do you get 22 within the first 30 turns?
It is part of the Handicap the AI gets above normal.
Ah, that explains it. Do they get +1 population per planet when they colonize, or is it just that they get a +1 population cap?
I've seen this also when invading planets, and always just assumed there was some sort of racial trait or tech I didn't have at work. But I never tried to track it down and don't recall any trait or tech that would do that, so it would be nice to have an answer.
I see this all the time. If the list is long enough then scrolling it will often bring them back. The ones that seem to disappear most often for me are the ones that appear in a different color, like "There are X ships in your territory that do not have open borders" and notifications about AIs declaring war on other AIs or AIs changing governments.
The fix in the patch was specifically described as being for "Normal UI scale". What UI settings are you using?
How do I add a file?
The usual method is to place it in a file sharing system like Dropbox and then paste a link in a reply.
3.96
Then you should have the latest.
According to the change log for 3.96, that should have been fixed: "Updated the Planet window so the Build Queue buttons don't break out of their frame in Normal UI scale." Have you tried a Steam verify files to make sure you got the whole patch?
How does one get the patch?
It was released September 18th, so Steam should have downloaded it for you already. When you start up the game, what version number do you see in the lower right corner of the main menu?
i tried this yesterday. disconnected all my gates and reconnected them. didn’t work. then i unconnected them all again and daisy-chained them in series so that gate 1 connected to gate 2 connects to gate 3 etc. when i had 20 gates connected in sequence like this, the achievement popped. i think the achievement is for having 20 gates connected to 20 different gates, not for having 20 gate connections. there’s a subtle difference t
Fair enough call, but this discussion seems to have had it's genesis in the "Can You Win With A Wide Empire V Can You Win With A Tall Empire" argument
Perhaps. But I thought it had to do with answering complaints about micromanagement with large empires. Different people have different tolerances for micromanagement.
i think the intention was to force very large empires to split off puppet empires.
You are correct, but not all of us like that option.
Wow, sounds very interesting.
I don't recall colony capitals ever being impacted by adjacency bonuses?
Maybe it was added for Retribution?
I have a Mod tool that scales Governments with Galaxy size. Adding administrators....... Anything else might need scaling?
Does it scale the number of colonies supported? I might be interested, could you describe it a little more?
I've tried three times to get that achievement, building 25, 29, and 27 hyperlanes, and have never been able to unlock it. There was another thread on this forum talking about it and several others had failed to get it, while one person had. I consider it bugged and have given up on it.
What version of the game do you have? Raw production contributes directly to the base social manufacturing, ship manufacturing, research, and income of each planet. You should try to maximize the raw production by increasing your population, building asteroid mines, and upgrading your capitals. At least in Retribution (and I think back to Crusade) putting your space elevator next to your colony capital gives an adjacency bonus to the capital that raises raw production by +
My wife has a Surface Pro and she does use some touch features. I pointed her to this post and so far she seems intrigued. I'd try it myself if I had a Surface Pro.

There has been a long standing request to add an option to the game to globally turn off auto-upgrading for precisely this reason, but it has never been implemented. I manually turn off auto upgrade for every planet I colonize or invade.
In other words, someone accidentally wrote the wrong word and hasn't found it yet to fix it.
Actually, IIRC, the word was written correctly when the game was written, but later on sensors were nerfed by a fix and the fix didn't correct the wording.
I fired up the game again this evening and found I had downloaded and installed the update. Until I start a new game I won't see most of the changes, but I have to say I really like the movement of the Word on the Street. While it is fun and nice to see, after a thousand hours playing the game it gets a bit repetitive, and the longer improvement list is going to save me a whole lot of scroll wheel rolling. My right carpal tunnel thanks you.
