i hated steam when i viewed it merely as DRM (ie when HL2 released). these days, after valve had ironed out the kinks, its a pretty neat service. i'd prefer if things like steamworks weren't necessay, but its not the 90s anymore.
If you don't mind me picking at your brain a little bit, how exactly do you view Steam? I mean, I still view it solely as DRM and nothing else. (not trying to start a flamewar here- honest
Gabe was in charge when Valve bought out CS and used it to anchor Steam onto people's systems if they wanted to keep playing, whether they wanted it or not. Gabe was in charge when they launched Half-Life 2 with mandatory online decryption for the retail copy, adding an hour or more to the install time for non-broadband users. I personally don't trust them with any sort of control because they've already shown in the past that they don
You know what I just did? Preordered. All I really needed to hear was preloading would be available, but the possibility of getting the game a few days early? Awesome.
Do you have your text size increased to 150% under Windows? I was just trying that tonight and I had the same problem as you, but only at that size.
Congratulations Stardock. I really look forward to purchasing this one. Now get get back to work on polishing the game!!!!
Well, this is my first Impulse game, so I hope its faster then Steam. Steam almost never downloads at full speed.
I tend to get much faster (and more consistent) speeds with Impulse than Steam.
Well, I was just curious. And I definitely would pre-order if I knew there'd be a preload. But if I'm going to be stuck downloading as soon as the game releases, then I don't see a serious incentive to pre-order.
According to the system requirements, the game only needs 2GB of hard drive space. However, Impulse can use up to three times amount this space (2GB to download the initial file, 2GB to extract it, and 2GB to install it...your first 4GB will be freed up after this). That kind of irritates me when wanting to play the Witcher (9GB).
Duke never dies. From those leaked videos about a year back, I thought the game looked quite good. If this game actually ships, I think I'll feel compelled to buy it day one. It's almost like being part of an alternate reality- "I was there on the day DNF launched."
http://www.impulsedriven.com/plantsvzombies I wonder if the achievements already work. I'll probably pick this one up next week. Congratulations Stardock.
I'd think that Elemental would be available for preload when it's ready, but is there any ETA for that to happen? And if there is a pre-load, is there a universal unlock time for the game? Or will it be based off your timezone?
I can't answer your first two questions, but if you're looking for another "4x" game, I'd say buy Sins of a Solar Empire. I think it'll have a different enough of a feel (heck, it's real-time!) that, even after Elemental is released, you'll still be interested in playing it. I haven't played it as much as I should, but that's because every time I start playing, I lose track of time.

Card: GForce 7300 GT Processor seems to barely beat the minimum specs and I think the 6800 (min. spec from ordering page) is a better card than the 7300.
Maybe clothmap. If that's the only PC you have to play this on, then I'd recommend waiting for

If you want a demo of the game, wait until after it's released. I approve of this.
To be honest, I specifically didn't pre-order early because I was afraid I'd be too tempted to try out the beta and then expect it to basically be an ear
I'm really excited as well, but I've decided to hunker down with Far Cry 2 (which I'm liking a lot more than I expected) and Sins of a Solar Empire, with GTA4 in reserve. So even though I really want to get my hands on it, I've occupied myself with other games for the moment. Though I am a bit nervous- I know Stardock has a serious commitment to improving their games, but this will be the first one I've ever bought at launch from them. So far, I've only seen the "after we've patched t
Have past Stardock games come out in your language? If so, I'd say there's a reasonable chance it will. I know Sins and Demigod came out in Chinese (traditional, I believe), and I'd think Italian would be a little higher on the priority list.

But I would suggest paying for the game before you left, as sometimes buying things online when in another country doesn't always work out the way you'd hope it would. Where in China are you going?
There will be a demo version out after release. If you're concerned about it running on your system, best to wait and try that. Well, it's just the beta. I'm sure that if you meet the recommended requirements, your performance will be just fine. Though I am curious if and when we'll see a netbook-compatible version of the game and what the required specs for that is. I'm considering buying a netbook soon, and I'd definitely be inclined to spend a little more to get Elemental running, even if only in cloth-map mode.
Then I saw the tactical battle part. Yikes . I know it's not the retail/full game. I know it's not finished yet. But I chose to not send the #3 video (with the 100+ turns example) to my friends. The main reason being the tactical battle example looked very, errrr, umm, primative, bland and "meh". I'm sure (or hoping) the retail version will be much different, and I also understand that was one small un
I was super impressed by nearly everything I saw except for the combat. Perhaps it would've been wiser to show a larger battle or something, because it simply did not look impressive. It looked downright boring. Only one guy attacking/defending? What's the point of assembling an army if only one guy is going to do the legwork at any given time. Even if the combat values account for the number of units, it still looks weak. I still plan on buying i
Since everyone's kind of talking about Bioware, I've got a quick question about Dragon Age. Do you have to manage your party in combat or it like KotOR where it's kind of optional? I've shied away from it because I'm not so interested in dealing with a whole party. That said, I don't think Bioware is that great of a developer. I liked KotOR, but Jade Empire and Mass Effect did nothing for me, though I would like to give JE another chance just because of it's setting.
Hiring people in Michigan? That's highly unorthodox.
