I'll do a proper test of this over the week-end and try to get to the bottom of it. It's probably hard to duplicate on proper hardware, since my rig is ooooold. I'm not 100% sure how the AI thinks, but if it's multithreaded, one of the threads may be getting stuck(if threads can do that) in some cases. Probably because of a combination of Windows XP and an ancient singlecore CPU. Which would also explain why the game on occasion doesn't shut down after closin

Again, Medium map, 5 opponents, Moderate resources, the issue has gone away. I swear I didn't do anything to my PC, other than praying for it. I'll try a few more games with lots of resources to see if this was really the cause.
This is going to sound strange, but since I started using the Normal density of resources, instead of Lots/Dense/More(I forget what was the highest one), this hasn't happened, even on small maps with 2 opponents (used to happen on tiny with only one). I'm guessing that having a lot of resources makes the AI think about ways it can have the mall, and it gets to a point where it can't decide because of my slow CPU.
What really killed the SW prequels for me was Anakin becoming Vader mostly because he acted like 12 year old on the internet who couldn't find any rational reason behind his actions and statements, so he started to throw tantrums, threats and called everyone a Nazi... then he killed a bunch of kids for the fun of it. I could stomach JarJar, I could stand little Any, I could overlook the plotholes, but making that wuss Vader was just painful. That retroactively poisoned the prequel
Again, this could be set as a type of wound, "Blood Trai"l, the monsters follow you until it heals/is cured.
Sooo... this happened: Not much to say, I summoned an Air Elemental by using a scroll one of the champions had. I attacked the existing Air Elemental with mine, and they started doing that until I hit the autoresolve combat button. Ignore the obscene mana indicator, I sort of, kind of, cheated a bit so I can muck about with the spells. Not sure if that had anything to do with the animations. I made sure to
I haven't the foggiest why, but in a game today it sort of returned to normal, and the only thing I changed was setting the amount of resources from dense to normal. Could my PC have gotten faster over the week-end? More testing to come.
Since I'm using a fairly old video card, I expected some graphics related issues to be present, and they are. None of them are critical, but just in case, here they are. <img src="http://thumbnails63.imagebam.com/17237/4f16e6172364191.jpg"
The best testers for this are people with crappy computers and terrible OSes (single core, Windows XP users). We don't officially support single core CPU’s because they’re so old but their terrible performance helps us find bugs.
And finally my system is good for something again. Proud to help out [e digicons][/e]
Complaint 3: Long end game turn lengths There is an inncoulous check for city contiguity that gets very expensive late game which I’ve changed to only care about if it’s humans since the AI just uses the auto place system anyway. This little tweak just reduced the turn times by 75%.
That may solve my problems and let me play properly before going back to the PC that actually uses parts produced this decade.&nbs
Well, 5 seconds on an i7 would probably translate to 40 seconds on an Anthlon 64 @ 1.8 GHz, singlecore CPU. I'll have to wait until next month to play the beta properly(on a Pentium D). Still, the time jump between .76 to .77 is unexpectedly large.
My guess is that the AI is now more multithreaded and therefore hates my singlecore processor.
This issue continues in 0.77. Can't go past turn 19. Again, there's enough RAM for it to expand, which it does not use, and the processor usage is at around 40%, not 100% like it is when the AI actually calculates it's next move. Debug: http://pastebin.com/k62jQYPR Small map, one opponent, few monsters. Save: http://dl.dropbox.c
A bit more info. Ending turn 1 is almost instant, the rest vary between 40-50 seconds at first and then increase to about a minute.
The patch released an hour ago: https://forums.elementalgame.com/416357
After installing patch 0.77, ending a turn takes a lot longer than in the previous version, even on the lowest difficulty level on a tiny map takes a long time, on a medium map it can take up to a minute. Memory efficiency is slightly better though. Haven't run into the "can't end turn" bug encountered in 0.76, but mostly because I haven't progressed enough turns for it to occur, due to the high delay at the end of a turn If needed, Debug: <a href="http://pastebin.com
Last attempt, on a tiny map, dificulty set to the lowest. Managed to get 39 turns in before getting stuck. I thought it may have been RAM related, but before it got stuck there were more than 100MB free, and I've seen it work with as low as 50 free. I even had explorer disabled so there woudln't be anything non-vital eating up memory. Debug: http://pastebin.com/rzybtGzP
"+ Reduced memory usage" That's music to my ears. Looking forward to the patch, hopefully it will fix my getting stuck at the end of a turn problem. [e digicons][/e]
Tried it again without changing any settings. Got from turn 13 to turn 28 and then stuck again. Debug: http://pastebin.com/bLATCM1X I should be getting my other, more competent, PC back on it's feet next month, si this isn't that big an issue for me, but it may relevant to others.
I got to 19 turns by disabling the auto-save. I'll try starting a game and not changing anything(I tend to fiddle with the cloth map), maybe it'll work. I wouldn't say it's about how much RAM XP can handle, but more about how much I've got. I still hope it will be playable on 1GB. Kinda wish it moved more stuff in the 512MB dedicated video memory(if that's how it works, it probably doesn't)
It happened again, this time at turn 19. I won't post the saved game, since it seems to persist even if I restore back to a state where ending a turn worked. I noticed in the debug.err that it seems to get stuck after this: Step 2: Thread: Setting AI Event Semaphore Debug: http://pastebin.com/R1GxN9JN (note, I cut the part of the debug where it was exiting the game so I could fit it into Pastebin)
I have the exact same problem at around turn 16-17. https://forums.elementalgame.com/416369 Be sure to post your debug file and your saved game, in case they can be used to determine what exactly is causing this.
Not a bad idea, with the condition of being able to find/cast/something a geas on his heart, to make him loyal again under pain of death and eternal suffering. Yoshimo style :D
Right then. Started a new game, small map (previous was on a medium map), built a town, got a few heroes, foguth a few monsters, started a few quests and BAM. Stuck at the end of a turn. And again, it's at turn 16-17. If this happens a third time, I think there may be a pattern. Save: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12979284/stuck4.EleSav Debug: http://pastebin.com/Sfz5hAqg
Funny you should mention mauling, my first fight in FE was against a bear cup, who's constant maul attacks put my sovereign into a permanent state of stun, causing him to lose the battle... twice.
