Just to clarify, did you literally specify X:\ as the installation folder? Edit: A fix for this case might be to reject installation in folders that contain non-Demigod stuff.
As the countdown clock gives the time down to actual minutes, I assume you meant it to be accurate to at least hours. :) Since it apparently uses local computer time indiscriminately, it shows about 7 hours differently depending on if I configure my clock to my own timezone (Norway) or a timezone in the US. UTC looks doable from Flash Player 9, though: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AS3LCR/Flash_10.0/Date.html
Sorry for the unspecific "Bug:" tag, but none of the categories match. Well, "[MISC]" does, but that's not any better.
This is on the new 2v2 map. When the game escalates to giants, my side's giants all get stuck in the second-to-outermost light/archer tower gates. For each giant that gets stuck, the game slows down. The framerate is still beautiful, but the actual game runs in slower and slower motion. First, I thought I had hit a "decrease game speed" key by accident, but I managed to reproduce this by starting a new game and waiting for the giants.
1 is actual law here in Norway. BigCorp does not suddenly gain partial ownership over my harddrive when I copy their bits onto it by installing the game.
According to the most secure source in the Universe, namely some random guy on the intarnets, never is "whenever you want it to be" I want it to be tomorrow. (Source: "Nobody"'s answer on http://ph.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080620130628AAhIAvT )
Yep, http://forums.demigodthegame.com/324115 by Frogboy says "Beta 1-A in a week or two". It'll be two weeks the day after tomorrow.
I'm with you on how "generic yellow ring: improves stat X by 5%" isn't inspiring. Those kinds of things make me feel like I'm playing a glitzy spreadsheet instead of a game. [e digicons][/e]
4. Gamers shall have the right to demand that download managers and updaters not force themselves to run or be forced to load in order to play a game. Ok, so it says "play" a game, not "update". But let's not split hairs hehe.
Actually, "play" vs. "download/update" is a critically important distinction here. The "download/update" is Stardock's way of suppressing piracy, and honestly not really painful for me.
(dammit, "edit" seems to be broken) I meant to say "requires re-activation" in my first sentence there.
(you have activate it first time after install and only 3 activations totaly allowed).
Don't forget that replacing any piece of hardware requires reinstall. For instance: install the game (1/3 activations spent) buy a new graphics card (2/3 activations spent) new graphics card broken? send it back to the manufacturer and put back in the old one (all 3 activations spent
Don't worry about getting an even bigger fleet. Build a ton of shipyards and start grinding him down with a relentless onslaught. :CONGRAT:

Even if they remove the activation limit, there's still the "activation on install at all" issue. What if they take their activation server down next year when I buy a new computer? I can guarantee you that EA will put "we can do that and whatever the fuck else we want" (translated to legalese) in their EULA. Oh, and there's the SecuROM 7 close-to-rootkit monitoring software. Yick.
Unless you've got a nasty icky bug hidden somewhere in 10,000+ lines of code and have to dig it out. That not fun.
Even more fun is a memory corruption bug hiding in someone else's crappy, asynchronous, threaded 10,000+ loc GUI components which are messy extensions of an external company's crappy, asynchronous, threaded 100,000+ loc GUI components, and the bug has a 0% chance of showing up with the debugger enabled. Aaargh... Yes, I just had a bad couple of
Thermonuclear Explosion: Upon your Demigod's death an nuclear explosion ensues thereby causing massive amounts of destruction. (Tip: walk your Demigod into the enemy spawn area and perform suicide.)
This was something you could actually do in Supreme Commander. :)
Although I had to read all the developer journals before pre-ordering, I feel I'm in the same camp as the thread author here. I'm on my way to fanboy land, and don't really want to stop. Stardock has such a great track record that even if I'd pre-order without even reading the game title, it is practically guaranteed it'll be a game I like. And even if the game should not be to my tastes, I'd have financially supported the only big publisher brave enough to stay completely awa
The reloading system of Gears of War for example, you had the option to just reload or try your luck/skill and try to get a perfect reload with the use of timing.
I personally hope they are very very careful with these kinds of skills if they add them. If you need little to no tactical consideration when using the skill, like the good ol' Counter-Strike bunny-jumping, Starcraft terran healer microing, or timing challenges like Tekken combos, then it will be just anoth
Power Rant: The demigod shouts for 5 full minutes about how unbalanced all the other demigods are. No effect on other players, but the caster gets a +10% ego-boost for the rest of the match.
I've only had positive experiences with the free Hamachi version, by the way. Just make sure that the Hamachi network adapter is at the top of the list in ControlPanel->Network->Advanced->AdvancedSettings. Will LAN multiplayer be an important issue to test in this first beta, or should I only worry about testing pure game performance? I.e., should I start bludgeoning some mates into pre-ordering and joining the beta right away, or can it wait a bit? :)
