GC2 made an attempt to create differences between the weapons... Missiles were in general the most damaging weapons but also the easiest to defend against... Mass drivers were in general the least damaging weapons but also the hardest to defend against... Beam weapons were somewhere in the middle... Be careful with statistics...that is NOT 14% marketshare, which is meaningless anyway since many people likely have games on several different clients...I for example have several steam games, but also some in impulse, origin, and desura...gog also sells some old classics that steam does not, so in some ways they aren't even direct competitors...

The issue for me was simply the amount of micro-management...SBs were tedious and UP in the late game (at least militarily), making it more effort than it was worth...an overhaul may be necessary, but even a simple reduction in the total number of weapon and defense upgrades and sensor upgrades would make a huge difference....

Any experienced TW fan will tell you that the tactical AI is the number one problem of those games...it is extremely tricky and can singlehandedly destroy all the hardwork put into the rest of the game...if SD can pull it off, more power to them, but it is definitely very risky... One of the main reasons why SoaSE Rebellion was steam only was to enhance MP...I understand this is GalCiv and thus we have a different crowd, but nevertheless steam offers a lot for MP and I think that is a very important consideration...

This is my take... If you plan on actually playing the alpha and beta versions a lot, then you are in a position to give feedback and affect (however slightly) the final product in a way a post-beta player could not... It's not that I expect them to listen to everything I have to say...but as a GalCiv fan it's nice to know I was one of those "in the beginning" that saw the game transform over time and evolve into a polished product...
