But would we get massively flamed? Probably.
But would the flaming of a few dozen people who feel entitled really hurt Stardock's goodwill? Or seriously effect the bottom line return on such a module based venture? Isn't it possible that offering more "pay for this feature" content - that for whatever reason you choose to package as less than a full expansion - would still generate a net return of increased goodwill, player interest, and game quality? I'm an in
They have added a significant amount of "waste" when using the focus feature. Rather than transferring the full 25%, you only produce a fraction of the 25% when using focus. Perhaps this is good new for you. It is a little harder to use now. But, and there is a but, with a few alterations to the strategy, I've been able to modify the approach to win with both all labs and all factories. In fact, depending on the race tree you have access to, I've found it even easier in TA. <br/
Focusing in an all-x doesn't work so well anymore... but as with every change they make its a matter of adapting. I've had no problems with an all-x in the TA betas... and all labs is easier than ever with the Altarians. As for the many strategies... pick one you like. There are sub-optimal combinations that will rarely work, or only work with a lot of practice (try making most of your income through trade routes on suicidal. Can be done, but the effort isn't worth it 99% of the time
It was already mentioned(I believe by Wyndstar) that the scoring potential for TA seems to be lower than either DA or DL
Just to clarify, because I did bring this up in a few threads. The scoring potential seems to be lower for the TOURNAMENT games, which is a new class of game only available to TA. Standard Metaverse games (what you played in DL and DA) using TA seem to be roughly on parity with previous iterations. ~ Wyndstar
Suicidal is easy with practice. Build up to it slowly, get used to each difficulty level... For example, here is how I beat the AI with Altarians on a Medium Map with 9 enemies on Suicidal: [link="https://forums.galciv2.com/150051"]Altarian Rebellion AAR[/link]. There are many, many other approaches if that one doesn't appeal to you. Hope that helps, ~ Wyndstar
Did people get so good at beating the AI that the trading system was made to have a strong negative bias against players?
Well, it may be my fault partially. A loooong time ago me and several other players DID get so good at it that there was no point in ever building a research building. We got all of the techs through trade from the AI, and just concentrated on building ships and killing things. Brad mentioned in a thread that he wanted to know just how the t
how do you succeed beyond tough difficulty
Vinraith no doubt has many good pointers, but I would actually recommend reading through the message board archive here. Between the AARs and Strategy threads there are three hint books worth of information on how to succeed at the top levels already written. Often with detailed screen shots and even save games for you to download and study. ~ Wyndstar
Is this in the latest patch... or coming soon? ~ Wyndstar
You are not comparing apples to apples. Why look at number of PCs sold vs. number of consoles (your second article) when the entire argument is about sales of GAMES. In the second article you link to for instance, while the body cites only 254,000 Xbox 360s sold, it also lists 296,000 copies of Call of Duty 4 for the 360 in the same period. Sure, there can be more PCs sold in February than consoles. That doesn't mean that PC is selling more GAMES. Steam refuses to relea
@Wyndstar: What are some obstacles to look at/for in the tournament system?
The biggest problem with tournaments is the level playing field. How long do you keep a tournament open? How many submissions can one person submit? Do the game setting appease enough people's play styles? And the general honor code stuff we already have in the MVL: Dummy enemies, ARC, etc. Now, in the tournament options in TA, most of that is taken care of. At that point, t
I heard that the reason most new computer games require the latest and greatest computer specs is because the market of people purchasing new computers (who in turn purchase the latest games to go with those computers) is greater than the market of those who stubbornly hold onto to their old computers for years.
This is not remotely true, at least not according to the white paper I've read on the topic. The number of "new" top of the line computers in use is some

Play using a vastly different strategy. First, some techs the AI overvalues... like Xeno Biology. For all of these techs there is no point in trying to get them. I find the game to be much easier on suicidal with tech trading on. However, I never, NEVER trade for tech. I sell my tech to the enemy, and I sell tech + money to buy planets, acquire research or trade treaties, bribe enemies to go to war, extort enemies for everything they have to sign a peace treaty with me,
Easier is to just move a bunch of transports next to Krynn worlds. They will eventually declare war on you... and no need to mess with the Iconians at all. ~ Wyndstar
I wanted to finish on April 8th... but the AI was colonizing almost as fast as I could build transports. Hence my 1 turn delay in finally knocking out the enemy. ~ Wyndstar
Mine was April 15th... ~ Wyndstar
I, too, would just ONCE like a precursor library. But this was also done with a +300% research tile: I'm going to see if I get a good set of starting tiles to see how high I can go, you all have me curious now. Proposal 1 - Meh. I don't really enjoy long talks about organization... it reminds me too much of my day job. I see no real reason in breaking up slots for empires and non-active members. I see no reason for non-active members to have input. If all the reps for the MVC came from the same empire, what would it hurt? How does over-representation for one empire really matter if the people involved are focused on the task at hand? Proposal 2 - A good idea, but I'm e
Glad to join. I needed to leave the Hegemony eventually, it was just a matter of where I landed. I talked with the diplomats, but never got an invitation, and I can't move myself to any empire without an invitation... I'm not typically very active in these official threads, but I will stop in occasionally. As for the Tyranny of Evil, I am already a member of that empire with my other character, so no need for BAD blood. Ha ha ha. ~ Wyndstar
Noon or Sundown?
Sundown seems more appropriate... But no fembots this time! ~ Wyndstar
Wait! I will use MY ridiculous number of votes to elect myself president. Neilo, looks like we are going to have to have another duel. 10 paces was it?? :HOT: ~ Wyndstar
The amount of money/time/micromanagement spent transitioning from one 'all' to another must be ridiculous.

I must be missing something really obvious, but it just doesn't make sense to me!
As far as I can tell, the only thing you aren't grasping is focus. If you have every planet in your empire with nothing but labs, and a 100% in your research slider, you can still build things by using "focus" on each planet to transfer some of your research pro
A few more thoughts, mostly specific to Thalan.
This advice only applies to DA. In DL the Thalans pay the same price as everyone for their factories, and in TA they don't get ANY starting factories of any kind. ~ Wyndstar
