Tyrantus, I'm sorry If I or anyone here offended you. I don't think that was anyone's intent. We all get a little excited when it comes to science, I think I don't care what anybody says, that's borderline sadistic, and the mad scientist who thought this up needs to go to jail. Sorry, you think that. If

- Fix espionage. At the moment it is broken. If I click on an enemy planet to veiw it, I recieve a dialog telling me that my espionage level needs to be "Advanced." However, if I buy a spy, I can instantly see all the imporvements on every planet including the military, social, and research production regardless of my espionage level. In fact, the only way to up the espionage level is to place a spy, which is self defeating as they are neutralized immediately. It's better to build the spy, use
yes, I know about the reorganization of brain patterns, but I wouldn't necisarily conisder that repair. The ending coniditon ofthe brain is certianly different than the state of the brain prior to the injury. Different areas of the brain are simply stepping in as a substitute. Hence why total recovery is not plausible (To my knowledge anyway) I was not aware of any large scale cell division (This is very interesting to me), however was aware of some repair and replacement mechanisms. I'
yeah that was the goal in my mod. I'm currently traveling for the next week (Helllloooo Midwest USA!), and odn't have access to my mod. In addition its not totally complete in the terms of balance, as I mentioned earlier. That and I do have a lot of typos in my descriptions and names (a source of much anguish) I'll be more than happy to share it with you when I return.
i've modded out a few other techs, but not alliances. I am curious, as there is something inherent in the alliance tech that allows for the Diplomacy options (I would assume anyway). Same thing with the ethical techs. There is prolly a tag in teh hard code that would look for the discovery of the tech.
Hello; 1 - More mega events/ rebalance. Also, allow for some rudimentary enabling/disabling of specific events that modders can fool with. Lastly, some of the events don't seem that mega. Normal events, like the PQ explosion are more mega than the unlimited range, for example. 2 - Fix diplomacy. Currently, while difficult, the AI doesn't seem too rational. I can understand if an AI values a tech in its eyes and wants a leg and an arm for it, but for more legit deals, it doesn't
I've actually written a mod to alter Starbase combat (amoung other things) greatly and make so the AI can handle strbases better too. Aside from altering the tech tree (making getting modules a little more logical), I've altered the requisites that the modules have. To upgrade your starbase, research the apporpriate tech. The research cost was designed to keep people from blitz upgrading their starbases to make them invincible (relative to current game status). In addition, the combat m
Not that I know of, sorry. From what I can tell, the Diplomacy model (ie rules, calculations, etc) are all hard coded. It's probably possible to alter the variables in Diplo calculations indirectly, like changing the values (cost would be my best guess) for the tech tree and different items (like weapons, ships). But that won't change the number of civs that can ally. On the other hand: You could remove alliances from teh game entirely. Just delete the Tech from teh tech tree.
what gets me is that I beleive the patches used to be stand alone. I never had to get SDC until DA (to download DA) and I had an updated game for about a year now. I understand that SDC is Stardock's form of ant-piracy, but the problem is that its not easily identified prior to buying. My box (original Galciv2 - Collectors) says internet is only required for metaverse. Now I can understand the argument: "Well if you wanted to update your game you'd need internet in the first place!", b
Either alliance or Military are my normal forms of victory. I don't really plan for a victory anymore. I kinda size it up as the game goes on. In some cases I have to scrap a long term plan as new events occur. Someitmes thigns go very well or bad for me. I did find planning for a type of victory was pretty helpful when I first started (I still do it occasionally). By limiting myself, I explored a variety of play styles and I think it helps me when I play normally as I am more
I played Moo2 for 10 years. I got all my firends into it. Now, since Moo2 over the internet with Windows XP is impossible with out an emulating matching service (like Kali - do they still exist?). IPX was the Lan protocol. Never heard of it? Yeah it got replaced by TCP/IP (Ok it still exists in XP, but its a pain in the butt to configure if it even works in XP). Problems, with Moo2 in terms of gameplay will still exist in Galciv2. Turns taking forever? Yep. One person pointed o
I name mine by ass size. You should see the fright on their faces when you have them surrounded by a bunch of J Lo's with Black Hole erupters. Wow, I laughed until I stopped Jpinard - I don't keep my non-template ships. I acutally have the game set to not save my ship designs. Templates I do save, as I seem to deve
hehe. Very true, Skyjack. I'm glad no one has said that here. IMO, It seems to me that while there seem to be races that excell better than others, there isn't really a race that totally runs away with the game everytime. I just had a game, where the Krynn were creamed by the Altairan (influence flipped) For what its worth, due to time constraints, I play on Medium, with uncommon to rare stars, resources, planets, etc. I play between tough and challanging. I think you would n
I think in our dicussions of Tech trading, we ought to avoid discussing the Colony techs. The reason being is the extreme colony tech has an unfortunate variable to it. There is a chance that certian tech will not ever be needed based on the galaxy creation. As a player there is no way that I am going to trade anything valuable for the colony techs unless I can use them. If I can't find any aquatic worlds, why would I need the tech? I for one do not know how the AI looks at the coloniza
I tend to agree. I did a small test and looked at my debug.err file after a game session. Unfortunatey, I never looked at it prior to the patch. What I did notice is that there were realtively few tech trades. About 2 in two game years with 6 races. I did notice however(but can't find it in teh debug file), was that there were a lot of ships flying around my universe that have been traded. The most lethal ships of the Drengin were the Altarian heavy fighters, for example.
I've noticed that the AI seems to value the colonization techs and Treaties a lot less. In my old DA games, I simply picked Super Adapter as I could use the free techs to trade. And I could get a lot, especially if I blitz researched the diplomacy techs and got the Dipl trade goods. I can't do this anymore. I enjoy it though, its harder to get in with races. Oh yes, BingJack and Vinraith, you might like this. The Debug.err File keeps track of all game events. This includes, Tec
Wow, people put a lot into this. Here's mine: I never use tiny - no point to it. I only ever have 3 small ships: Small Small alt Small fin I only have 1 medium ship (never bother replacing hte design, just build new imporved ones as the old ones die): PatCom Then I win the game. I play on medium/small maps (I don't have time for huge maps, sigh). Actually my current game will be the first time in over a year that I will be buildi
Knownalien; here is a list of mega events, and what tehy do: MEGA EVENT LIST I've had the Alliance and Pirate war in the same game. Alliance wasn't bad, as only 3 of the 4 races I had been in contact with actually declared war wiht me. Of them only 2 were in range and I had almost beaten the one. The pirates totally hurt me though (and everone else). I was leading the weapons race pumping out ships tha
Legos, Ohh I had legos. I have no artistic skill, and my legos (and GC2 ships) show it. But that didn't stop me. I remember haveing a few toys other than legos, but mostly I remember the legos. I think that's where I got my Sc-Fi instrest, I always made space ships, stations, landers, you name it. Still have all of them too. I'm saving them for when I have children. That way I'll have an excuse to take them out and play with them. Especially with DA, now there are more
oooh this might be fun: MY rant: "In 20 years, I have not been in a place where the people held so much Hate for each other. I have never seen best friends plotting each other's defeat nor the joy of destroying a person. In my home, these weapons would not even be used upon my greatest adversary. I wonder, how can you all survive stabbing from the shadows at all you claim to hold dear? You must learn to let go of your hate before you turn your maliciousness upon your very own
Well Chimeric organisms aren't exactly a new thing, nor unnatural. Most natural Chimeric organisms are plants though. There are a few really good examples of semi-common plants, but I totally can't think of them right now (sorry - its late for me - I do remember that it is a tree). I used to do genetic experiements for research at my University, have a good idea of what goes into them. The article is definetely op-ed (as evedinced by the writing style) so I suspect that a large
hmm, It seems that the Korath and Krynn are consistantly rated the strongest. The other races seem to vary a lot in everyone's opinion. Drengin, Yor, and Altarian also seem to be rated fairly high by a good number of players, but on the same side, there are a good number of players also rating them low. I suppose in the name of "game balance" it ought to be random (no race ingerently better than the other). That could explain why everyone seems to have very different opinions
I Believe it might do RAW. I've heard good things about IrfanView. I used to use it to convert bmp to tga for Morrowind back in teh day, lol Worked really well too.
to be honest, I think the major variable is Galaxy compsoition. You could prolly generalize it down to galaxy size as many people seem to have more abundant resources selected. Staring location is the most random, and will probably fall out as you get more data from players. Trying to separate the AI personality from the race I think would be too difficult, but general rankings of the how the different races perform per galaxy size, is probably possible. In my last post, I had a medium
Vinraith, you'll love this: did another game: medium galaxy, few planets (pretty much just home systems), 6 races (and then me) Strongest: Korx Middle: Torian Yor Drengin Weakest: Me Altarian Thalan The availability of resources really made a huge difference, I think. With few planets, the Korx could use thier trade techs to outclass everybody economically The trading the Korx with with me was 4 times what my colon
