When traveling North/South, the ships tend to zigzag back and forth because of the current hex game board (which I love btw). I feel like it wouldn't be that hard to simply smooth out the movement and ship course lines when moving north/south (or one of the other 4 slightly diagonal directions that this same phenomenon occurs with). It really is just a strait line anyway. If you lined the course on the alternating right & left sides of the hex, it would smooth o

Thanks Raynman, Ill let you know if I run into it again.
What would be really cool, at least to me, is the idea of that edge being vast spaces, but there are some small clusters at a looooooooooooong range. Those who have the tech can explore it before anyone else and get a flanking and production/research advantage. Also, it could be a refuge for high tech factions getting owned in the galaxy proper to escape and regroup. Something like the "Foundation" series in Asimov.
<
Has anyone thought of or discussed the possibility of removing the galaxy boundary? 1. Stars & map elements would still only generate within the galaxy. 2. Starbases could only be constructed inside the galaxy. (Possibly) 3. Ship Range and Influence would extend till their natural extent outside the galaxy. This does a few things: 1. It would look and feel more natural. 2.
Hello, Here is the series of events that caused the crash. I had been moving my ship yard. I anchored it when I saw an enemy ship coming near. I clicked turn. while I the turn was processing I entered the ship yard screen to see how close my next ship was to completion. When I was inside the shipyard screen, a window popped up asking me if I would like to confirm battle. I clicked yes (as there is no other option). Immediately the game crashed
8. Power stations. (A late game super project that increases the efficiency and output of production and research related buildings.)
Just an FYI. This was meant to be a Dyson Ring Power Station. Or alternatively a Solar Power Generation Starbase... basically a ring (or cloud of satellites) around a star that generates huge amounts of electricity. The way it reads makes it sound like its land based instead of a huge space station around
ECONOMICS, PRODUCTION, AND RESEARCH: 12. Science Vessels (add a "Research Labs" Module) 13. "Dyson Ring" Power Station (Late game super project that supplies lots of power for late game power hungry factories, research labs, ext.)
This is a good suggestion! [e digicons][/e]
I absolutely like this idea! My only comment is that, in a government budget, it is possible to move funds quickly from one sector to another. The sector losing funds will imediately stop producing, however the sector receiving them would need to "wind up." I think the idea, as presented, is a great game mechanic, however there could be even greater levels of realism if instead there was a "lag time" when changing your focus. Remember, if you already h

The AI is probably highly guarded technology though. Once you open it up to mod, you also open it up so your competitors can see exactly what you've done. I've been through several Beta rounds with Stardock now. I love Frogboy, this community, and all the devs! Since we are musing on what's to come; may I pose a reminder/suggestion that we all be on guard for people who's posts are hateful or insulting towards the devs. I know this goes without saying for most of us. I have always really enjoyed how this community rallies around the devs anytime someone flips their adolescent wig. But I do want to re-re
I love the hot seat feature of Civ V. It would be awesome to see it in GalCiv3

I find they have always done a great job with the AI. Obviously there are always issues that can be improved upon, however their engagement with the community is a huge plus when it comes to balancing the game and the AI. Lets try not t
Up till a few months ago, I would have argued that I think the future of 4x isn't likely to grow very much. Then I bought a Lenovo Yoga, with the i7. Its one of those laptops that turns into a tablet. I loaded Civ V onto it and played the touch screen version for the first time... I just about died! It felt so natural. Like 4x was destined to be played on a touch screen tablet! For now, my i7 is only just powerful enough to handle Civ V, and will probab
This was an idea I had several years ago for GC2. It's simple. Create a “Lab” module for starships! This Lab would produce a limited number of science points each turn, possibly bonus points for exploring anomalies, new star systems, wormholes, ext. This could be a linear progression of the survey module, or a fork in the technology tree. I personally prefer to play a more peaceful/economically driven strategy. but I still think star ships are cool! Bein
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! I love playing Civ V on my Lenovo Yoga (i7)!! Games like this are such a natural fit to a high powered tablet cross over!!! Nothing like sitting out on my patio, smoking a pipe, sipping on some cognac, with my tablet in my lap killin some barbarians!!!
What about Starbases? How do they fit into this discussion. They don't secede, but once they amass enough modules, they achieve a city-state status. When a race is conquered, the Starbase just disappears when in fact that would not happen. A huge hunk of metal just doesn't disappear if it's civilization is conquered and the Starbase is untouched. Wouldn't it remain in space and become an independent
I'm a forum guy. The forums feed the games, not vice versa for me. If it weren't for hanging out with you guys, I'd retire. My biggest motivation is making things that other people want to play. I enjoy that. I enjoy the feedback. The downside is that some people mistakenly believe that because we tend to incorporate player ideas into the games that we don't have a firm design document in ha

I too think this is a good idea. I don't know how realistic it would be to begin implementation at this point in the production cycle, however if it is already planned for it could be realllllly cool!

Also, if you have to invest in several construction ships, and also pay in credits for every upgrade every time you set out to build a new ring, it would not be practical to just deploy rings to every star within a few turns. That kind of project would be a HUGE investment and would take resources away from other worth while endeavors. This would be very similar to constructing star bases in GC2. It took time and money to get a single star base fully upgraded, let alone seve
Plus, from a balance standpoint it might be a bit overpowered if you could research a tech and suddenly build these space stations around every start star you have. The influx in production would be way to sudden.
I imagine the first level research would cost a lot, and would be mainly focused on building the structure. It wouldn't be highly efficient at power production. As you research through the 2nd, 3rd
