Playing a game today, managed to get 2 additional players in on the game. So we had a 2v1 with AI to fill it out making it 3v3. From this screenshot you can see that the ping of the player Mooglepies is being placed on the Team of Light's AI player, instead of himself.

The first game I host online will host on port 6073 or whatever the default is. If I try to remake the game, it always hosts at port 0. Players can see the game on the list, but it will not connect. If I shut down Demigod and restart, I can successfully host a single game again.

I had the game hard-hang on me during an online match today. Unfortunately I can't get any sort of data log for you. The game locked up with the typical repeating sound looping in the background. Had to hit the reset button on the computer to remedy it (nothing else responded). Its worth mentioning that it happened about 20 minutes into the game, and I never had a crash/lockup with the previous versions. Heres my DXDiag info. ----------------- Sy
Of course we'll still support 32bit too but there's a lot of performance boosts we could provide to 64-bit players in the future.
What kind of performance boost do you get with 64-bit? Are you doing double computation? Or is there just more boost available with pre-computation that you can do with a bigger slice of memory.

You might have to do some things to make the SketchUp model export correctly, like explode faces, and make sure the geometry is correctly exported. I unfortunately don't have all the details, but I know its possible. We convert Sketchup to 3DS format in the lab and have it work with, so there should be a way.
Have any of you actually done real DirectX or OpenGL development work on 3d interactive applications? (could be a game, could be a tech demo, or could be an educational project) I'm just wondering because I get the feeling I'm the only one here that has.
Yes, though primarily OpenGL. Most of the applications I've written involve a head-mounted display or a large projection screen (image-based rendering technique). I've done a little DirectX under C#, and I do like it, t
Opengl has been crap for a long time, at least in computer years.
Where does this come from? Have you ever coded in either? The biggest difference between the two APIs is who they care about supporting most. DirectX is targetted primarily toward games, while OpenGL is targetted toward tools and research. However, in the end they're just graphics APIs, with hardly little true difference. One big reason why I don't use DirectX in research is that they don't sup
Hardly PC industry changing, but intriguing nonetheless. I was hoping you were going to announce your fantasy game *frowns*.
Its totally PC industry changing, you apparently haven't read much about Impluse. They want to move to a 'microsubscription' service for games after they've gone through their free updates. I think this is a great idea. Not to mention digital downloading without having to deal with annoying CD/DVD protection is the no-brainer way to go.

My guess is it has to do with the Sins of Solar Empire expansion [link="http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/04/sins-of-a-solar.html"]WWW Link[/link] And that it will be released for free! (Or close to free)

I had this same question a week ago or so and Kyro gave me this
Go to My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar, open the file prefs.ini, and make the following changes: Change DisplayWidth=1680 DisplayHeight=1050 To DisplayWidth=(Your desktop width) DisplayHeight=(Your desktop height) Then save the file and start the game.
You'll have to find the file in Vista - but yah, look for a prefs.ini

Have you tried different resolutions and settings? Do they all crash? Its definitely the video card given that error file. It's messing up on the double buffering of the frame buffers - which is strange. I'm getting a computer very similiar to yours in a few weeks with vista-64bit, I hope theres an answer to this :)

The point of a demo is to get the user to buy the game. Your goal is to get them to like it and demand more. This demo aids this by allowing the player to see the whole game (albeit in this case, just one race). This way they get a feel for how things work and what it has to offer, but then they get curious to how the other races would play. The time-limit is great because it's a tease - how is this a bad thing for sales? You get to start the game without putting in a quart

Here it is - it looks like its trying to force a resolution that my monitor can't handle (1680x1050). If thats the problem, lemme know what I can use for command arguments or whatever to get it started, so I can adjust it :) Debug Message: Version v1.80e Dark Avatar last updated on: Thu Nov 8 10:48:23 2007 Debug Message: Checking DX Version. I am having a problem with Dark Avatar loading. I haven't played this game in awhile, so I am not sure what has changed. Gal Civ 2 vanilla version still loads just fine, but when I try Dark Avatar I get a blank screen on loadup and it hangs (I have to kill the process to close it). I am runnin 1.80g. My computer has an intel duo 6400, geforce 8800gts (updated to latest drivers), 2 gigs of ram. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Dark Avatar from stardock ce

Yah 'dual core support' makes it sound like something developers can toggle on, when the truth is, the entire program has to be written multi-threaded from the ground up. Game developers are going to have to start getting more serious about writing multi-threaded programs though. As parallel processing has finally hit the stage, were seeing more cores to counter the difficulty in increasing the chip speed. What makes me wonder though, is they move things like AI on to other

Followup: Of course - they could just add in some defensive structures or abilities that make single unit spamming of any type less viable, without nerfing the ship types directly. What about a planetary defense structure that can disable any *one* ship type in their gravity well for like 5-10 seconds a burst. Some sort of large EMP blast wave. This would be minimally effective in large balanced fights, while incredibly strong against anyone who brought in a pile of one unit.
I've played two games online and both games were won by someone massing just Illuminators. It's a trend that's turned me off to online play. The game ceases to involve any strategy when the key to winning is simply massing one type of ship faster than the next player. -- RTS games in a nutshell.
This is why the Zerg were the first race most players got good with in Starcraft early on. I have both Gal Civ 2 and Sins. The games play out very differently. Gal Civ has a lot more depth in general because it's turn based, while Sins has much more exciting combat / tactical gameplay. Sins is also multiplayer, which can make for much more interesting games, though its AI is slim compared to GC2's. So you have your tradeoffs. Thankfully both are made by great teams that respond to their community and update often.

I had some 'new ideas' instead of bug fixes - since those are well covered. Both of my ideas stem from purchasing in game. 1) Allow items to be 'flagged to buy'. Have a queue of flagged to buy items, and once my resources hit the sufficient amount to buy the top item of the queue, it is auto-purchased. This allows me to queue up my progression and forget about it, and work on other things. 2) Allow items to be purchased 'later'. Something similar to what is in Gal Civ 2.
