Hehe... the system is clean from all kinds of malware. I'm fairly meticulous about this sort of thing. The CPU model is 740QM. But yeah, full shutoffs are not simple to track down... almost always hardware, and usually heat. But since heat isn't the issue, it is possible that one of several components have just degraded over time. Really, the only reason I brought it up here is because other than one time using Skype, I've not had this happen
I'm still not convinced it is a heating issue since I've tried it multiple times with temp sensors checking (unless the sensors are broken) and the system does not approach critical temps. The system is nearly dust free - all fans working, thermal paste reapplied (properly). All drivers are up to date. Now, it is possible that the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5400 can't handle it. Or... my laptop, even if it is not old, is starting to break down. &nb
Yay!
Yeah, I have noticed, using other monitoring programs, that the cpu load is extremely high... higher than anything I have ever run on this laptop. It is not an old laptop... has good specs as far as laptops go (that aren't designed for gaming). But I have played a number of games that are high on graphic details with a lot of other stuff going on. Most recently I played Banished with no problems. It does seem like a hardware issue. However, if it i
As I mentioned, for me it is not about being a fanboy (though I do like the company). We all make decisions on what we will do for entertainment, how we will spend it. If I can spend a little, support a company I like, and enjoy participating in testing, then it is worthwhile for me. Maybe not for you. Do we know that there will be any DLCs? What if the game is terrible? Yes, all valid questions. There are no guarantees. But I am of the growing opini
I agree. I like it... but right now it feels more like a concept than anything material.
I did measure both. I have them monitored with alarm if too high. With the game running, I was at around 73C. I have my laptop on a cooling fan thing (which I know doesn't help that much). During each crash, I had it plugged in (power cord). The only other time this has happened to my recollection was once while running Skype. Otherwise, as far as usage, I don't know which games are actually heavy use. But on my laptop, I'v
Yep... too many bonuses... some spawning in weird places (but that goes for the whole spawn system... you should not have your capital and starport both in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean). But overall, the multiple effects, or affects to adjacent tiles, adds some more intentionality to building location management. I would like to see this area of planet management fleshed out a bit more. A simple way to create depth is to increase the types of bonus tiles
Okay, maybe this is not the game's fault. But'll report it anyway. Twice, now, after playing for a little while, the laptop does a complete shutdown. This has not happened to me in any other game. Hi have speedfan running and it does not look like it overheated. Machine: Dell Studio 1458 Laptop Core i7 1.73Ghz 8GB Ram ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5400
But then who knows, some idiot somewhere is bound to believe this package is for the finished game with all the expansions and DLC ALREADY and then complain he got ripped off and write a grand flaming review in the Steam User section, which will subsequently be upvoted by all the trolls. That can happen when dealing with humans.
Prime example of why the Yor are superior.
Thanks for clearing that up for me MaxWar. That is helpful. Still, if the concern is that people will buy elite founder edition and complain about having paid that much for an unfinished or broken game, those same people could write reviews.
I am also a long time loyal fan... and have no problem paying for Frog Face's coffee. But yes... the were other founders options (cheaper) earlier for anyone who was keeping watch. The way I figure, for some of us, being a part of the process, naming a star, and all that... that is a privilege that the average gamer doesn't get. With other alphas which I have been a part of, the testing process was much different. Brad and the gang have
I would think the larger concern is not with the small group of loud complainers that don't understand the concept of testing. I think the concern would be that it could have a negative impact on future potential buyers. I don't know anything about how Steam forums are managed, what gets carried over, and what controls you have over what reviews are visible or remain after the game moves out of "early access". Whether we like it or not, there are many potent
That occasionally happened in custom games in GC2 as well. Still, those are the kinds of things that shouldn't happen. In GC2, with research opening up tiles, sometimes your new tiles were in areas where the underlying image looks like water. That of course means you build something... like a Starport, in the ocean. If we can avoid this in GC3, that would be much preferred.
I have a few thoughts regarding the bonus tiles: [Bug?] It appears that the bonus tiles can spawn under pre-existing structures including the original starport, or planet capitals. I do not recall this happening in GC2. I like that the bonuses have more than one potential affect. A big thumbs up on this. I assume that the alpha is just lifting some UI from GC2 while the artwork will be refreshed in the future... yes? I love GC2, but someho
This is interesting, but would require some work to get the balance right. Perhaps one way to use this is to tie it together with tech treaties and tech trading. That is, research techs can only be traded if you have a research treaty. And on top of that, trades (gifting) research only takes place within the context of shared projects for which certain prereqs are not held by the other party. I know this seems complicated. But in my mind it makes sense. :p

Ultima Ascention may not have been great but that Ankh pendant was awesome sauce incarnate.
I'd say "Dumhed" but somehow I think they will not accept it.
Just to chime in: I like the option to micromanage - which I will probably do. However, it would also be nice to bulk manage several planets together, not just all or one. I'm not a fan of single building cues. It just lacks logic - though I understand it makes it simpler. If I had my way, there would even be the option for one planet to be working on more than one ship at a time. I mean, really... 10 billion people can only build on
Disappointment I was expecting an article or at least a description of the game. There was nonething. This will cause mixed fealings first this will cause an audience of gamers that will probably expecting something like starcraft when they will get Galactic civilizations. This may bring new people to the game. More likely this will cause a lot of people to buy this game expecting something else. Hopefully I'm wrong,
