We're staging a candidate now to test this evening. The pacing, imho, is the most significant issue I am having with it and I think it will require some additional game mechanics/features. I also think the map needs more strategic elements and that we need to get the HUD in. But I would like to see what others have to say before proposing specific solutions.
Out of curiosity what are the "pacing" is
Most games also show you where your unit will go and the path they will take before you actually give the command to move. I have seen games with at least a partial undo feature. One that comes to mind is Battle for Wesnoth. With Fog of War off you can undo pretty much any movement command(though not combat). With Fog of War on, you can only undo movement commands that did not reveal any of the f

What is your (practical) target for Elemental? 7? Going to hit an 8 before you're happy to release it to the wild? A 10 is probably unreasonable for any game of course, but I'm curious with your "scores" being so low (and thus you being probably overly hard on yourself) what you wanted to achieve here.

AI development sounds crazy hard, kudos for not taking the easy route - hopefully we'll end up with a satisfying single player experience, and a challenge when playing with friends and AI "bots" are present! I do wonder, though, can I design a custom race and have the AI use that race? If so, will the AI be able to use the custom settings I've set up intelligently, or will AI players always use only the stock factions/races?
Quoting StarCruzr, reply 8 Hmm. I was looking forward to Elemental, but I have to say, these two videos left me thoroughly unimpressed. I know it's not the end product and that not everything that's going to be in the game has been shown, but still - what I saw I didn't particularly like. Maybe it is time to re-evaluate my purchase decision. Well, what didn't you like?
</p

Yeah, I don't know what the deal is with this - did Shack drop the ball and put the wrong video up? No one seems to have this fabled "part 2" but I believe Brad even mentions some of what happens during this video in the interview? Baffling.

Confused - on the ShackNews videos they say there is a two part video, but part one seems to end with Brad saying he'll resume the video in a bit after he's further in the game, and then part two is another video he put up a few days ago detailing the same map in the opening part of the game again - did Shack put up the wrong video, or is the actual video where Brad shows off some more of the "mid game" still coming?

It's actually really easy to whip up a random map with out pirates, as the Pirate Base is just a planet type. Just go into the map maker interface, set how many players you want, and remove the PirateBase planet (it's going to be the first planet group, I believe) and save that as a map called "RandomNoPirate" or something. Just tweak from there, as desired. Easy.

Where is the stuff it installed? I had to reboot my system after the install, but I'm not seeing any content anywhere. Is it in the game? On the start menu? In my head? Will I wake up in a hospital bed, barely remembering the car accident and this is all just an illusion!?

Thanks for all the quick replys, I just played a game with no problems, and I hadn't run into this before either, so I'm thinking it was what Blair indicated, which only happened rarely. I hadn't had any problem playing anything else, and until recently I'd been playing NWN Mask of the Betrayer, BioShock, Crysis, and Gears of War on and off for a month with the exact same drivers/set up with no problems, so I don't think it's the rig. It's probably the long since resolved freeze bugs

Not sure if this is the place to report this, but I played two separate games last night and both games froze up on me after about half an hour of play. And I mean FROZEN, my entire PC became unresponsive and I had to power it off the hard way. I'm running an ASUS M2N mobo w/ AM2 64 x2 4600, 2GB DDR800 RAM, 8800 GTX, and a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 card. I didn't seen any events in the Event Log, so I'm presuming the problem was with the game specifically, but I wasn't sure if there wa

Are you running Vista (pre-Vista-release versions of SDC had issues with the register products dialog like you describe)? If so, you may just need to get the latest version of SDC . Otherwise, or if that doesn't work, you can also go straight to the Games section of the register dialog by right clicking on GC2 (or any game) in the main screen, then choosing Register Pro

In Stardock Central, select Games and then click on Registration Info in the lower right corner. Select Dark Avatar (Expansion Pack) from the Product dropdown (it appears directly under GalCiv II). Then type your Gold Edition serial into the Serial Number field and click Register. I'll try that when I get home. thanks! Okay, this is what I'm running into now. There is no product for Gal Civ II

I do have an Nvidia card, a 7800 GT. I'll just keep sitting tight for Nvidia to get this figured out! I am not sure how to register the entire game (Gal Civ II GOLD), I just right-clicked on DA itself as it already showed up that I have an installed and legit copy of Dread Lords. How do I do that?

10 Replies 12,339 Views

I looked through the sticky, none of it addresses my specific concern. I purchased Dark Avatar from a retail outlet and installed both the original game as well as DA on my newly installed system (I'm using Vista, in case it matters). I already owned an electronic copy of GalCiv II through Stardock, but I wanted to own the media on disc and since it came with DA, this seemed like a good opportunity. After installing the product, I see in the read me file I'm to use S

Hi, I am creating a new PC, the specs are (roughly) A8N-E board w/ AMD 64 6800+ 512mb (x2) PC3200 Dual Channel eVGA GeForce 7800GT 256mb 80 GB Western Digital SATA 8mb I'm having the strangest issue, where some software packages (including GalCivII) won't extract, citing an error in the CRC table or an incomplete download (neither of which are the case). I can install some things okay, I had no problem installing this: Nero Po

Would it be picky of me to point out the person who complained about the grammar, actually spelled it as grammer Maybe I was referring to the actor? ever think of that wise-guy? *cough* Still, I think Citizen Asharak said it best. I wouldn't have even mentioned it, but I too had to read it a couple times to get the meaning accr

And the grammer checks? It was a funny message, but that's like the third screenshot I've seen with strangely worded grammer. Not a big deal, but I think it needs to be mentioned for future patches. I know there is a LOT of text, but you know, if Stephen King's editors can do it....
