Lock-ups in 2B

I've had the game lock up a few times under 2B. It seems to occur during the AI movement.

A couple times I have notice an AI ship showing movement with a negative value. In the last lock-up that just happened, the AI ship had -48/4 movement. Once that ship stopped moving the game froze.

It is also difficult to exit out at this point(WinXP). After ctr+alt+del I have to "mouse over" the task manager to get a view of it. Galciv takes control of the screen and I only get a flickering view of task manager, making it very hard to try and end task. (hope you can understand this)

Side note- does anyone else feel as if the range limit is too far? I wish it were more of a challenge to get to that "next planet" that is just out of range. The ranges do not feel very limiting as they stand right now.

Yes, I think the range limits are too liberal. I have been hoping that once the tuning and balancing are done that this is one of the things addressed. As I understand it, the current settings were just to test the code.

i had a very serious lock during an AI move yesterday and coudn't even c-a-d out of it i had to soft re-boot my computer. I am keeping a look out for it again - more likely Mr Gates than anyone else.

Oops, must be because of the 1 attack == 1 move code...it doesn't know when to stop.

just had another total system lock up today. It was during AI player move again and it froze on the ai player having 1 of 3 moves left and i had to soft reeboot my puter.

plus it was adjacent (attack range) of one of my ships.

I saw one AI ship move past it's max move here too. It seems to occur when a ship attacks at it's maximum range, which causes the ship to have -1 moves available, and apparently the code isn't consistant on whether that number is really signed (-1) or not (+255/65535/2.1M, depending on whether that is a short or not).

I have not had that oddity cause a crash though.

I have had a ship that got the -1 moves problem. I could then move the ship an unlimited amount that turn. The negative number just kept increasing.

I've had the game lock up on my a few times now. It always seems to be an enemy ship that does it, and it happens when a ship attacks or tries to attack one of my ships. Destroying the ship before the end of my turn usually prevents it from recurring.
