Microsoft revamps included games

The games that come with Windows XP are pretty dated.  But with Windows Vista, Microsoft has gone back to the drawing board.  Included in Vista is a whole slew of updates to classics along with some new games including a pretty nice chess game.  Check out the screenshots below.

 

The new chess game is pretty impressive.
Minesweeper gets a much needed update
Mahjong! Yes!
I'm not quite sure what this game is..
Microsoft's dialogs are getting better.
Solitair gets an update too.

Ack! They look great, but I hope they leave previous versions intact...I kind of like the charm of Minesweeper and Solitaire (Freecell too), they way they looked from the 3.1 days. Still play them, too

Looks pretty cool. Where is the pinball game? Thats really the only one i ever play and it is fun and works well.

The Mahjong is the best update!!!!!

As far as the old games... I bet you'll still be able to run them if you copy the EXE's...

MS's dirty secret is that you can even run games from Windows 1.0 (if you can find the files)... I downloaded some windows 1.0 programs and they still ran in XP. Shocking.

yay for Mahjongg! I hope they keep Spider Solitaire though, I'm sorta addicted to that.

Its about time. Not that I ever play the built in games, but that is partly because they felt old and looked it also. I suppose this shows promise that they really will overall the whole system, including icons. One can hope.

Windows 3.0 had a great 16-colour chess background bitmap . . .

As for the windows apps, that's not a dirty little secret. A huge amount of work goes into making sure that old applications still work for people. Windows 1.0 is pushing it, but many 2.x or 3.x apps will still work.
