Altarian Campaign?

Hiya,

I'm kinda wondering if my installation of the Altarian Campaign is working right. In the first mission, there's no objectives listed on the objective screen, it starts off with war already going on with the Korx. There's no explanation for any of this. Then at the end there's a screen saying we returned some stuff to the Altarians although we never did any such thing. Honestly, is this how it's supposed to work?

I think there should be a description of what should be happening before you actually begin Mission 1.

It tell you a little bit of the history and the two objectives:

Avoid war with Altarians, and
Defeat the Korx.

there is also a box to check if at any time you want to see the mission objectives.

for reasons beyond my knowledge, the fourth time i restarted the mission the objectives showed up. but thanks for your input :d

okay, nope!

They're gone again now. I finished the first campaign mission and the objectives disappeared again. Also, can some helpful soul tell me how to access the scenarios? I cant seem to do that either.

thanks

It is the long way around but you could make a campaign for each map or a scenario or a group or scenarios using the campaign editor.

Just remember to have the campaign, scenario and maps in the campaign folder.

MADJOSEPH:

I have had the same problem and have brought it to the attention of Carielf during the beta testing but to no avail. What are your system specs as I am just curious as to whether the problem may be due to some similarity between our two systems. Otherwise, if I were you I would bring this up on the bug report page for AP.

Hi Plephart,

Ive mentioned this to Carielf to, I think, through the help email at Stardock. I'm running Windows Me, 512 ram, Athlon 1.2 gig processor, Nvidia Geforce fx 5600.

The only problem I've had with the game has been the lack of objectives in the campaign. However, I've discovered I can't open the scenarios or the campaigns with their respective editors. They lock up every time.

Hope they can get a fix for this. I bought AP just for the campaigns and scenarios.

Just to add, I have exactly the same problem.

No mission text is being displayed for any of the Altarian Prophecy campaign scenario's - the onyl way I can read it is by opening the scenario's themselves sesperatly.

I'm also running Windows ME.

I use XP Home on a P4 2a with 512 and have never had any prob with Stardock stuff yet. I guess you could say that I am one lucky person.

Okay so this is exactly the same problem I'm having with no text in the mission description screen no mission objectives and no teams.

My system specs are as follows,

Win98SE
AMD Athlon 1.33 gig
768 MB RAM
Nvidia Geforce4

So it looks like we have a few things in common. Hope someone in charge comes and takes a look at this because it seems like its not just an isolated incident.

Can either of you open them in the scenario editor, or does it not work with the scenario editor either?

From what is aaid it seems that AP has problems with anything below XP Home/Pro.

CariElf?

Are you the same Cari I'm corresponding with through Stardock's Help? Just wondering.

I can open the scenarios with the editor, providing I take them out of the AP folder and move them to the desktop. Both the Capaign and SCenario editors lock up when I try to open them in the AP folder.

Is that normaL? and thanks for responding.

Yes, I am. :)

That makes me think that it may be a problem with the length of the pathname.  At least you have a workaround while we figure out what's going on. :)

Anyone else find that this helps?

Add me to the list. No mission info or objectives. I received the CD version and its v1.50.

Win98SE
AMD Athlon 1.2
256 RAM

Funny thing is, I remember trying the beta version, which I downloaded, when it was first released, and had the mission objectives fine. So some other change in AP along the way caused this.

I have a laptop running XP... lets see if it happens there (to be continued).

I'm having the same problem and am also running ME, the thing is, very rarely they do show up, I had them show up once on the 1st mission, and once on the 6th mission, but they only work very rarely.

I'm not sure what changed where you wouldn't be able to read the scenario files.  Can you see the stars on the minimap on the objectives screen? If you start a normal game and you try to select a custom map, do you see a description in the little box next to the select scenario dialog?

If you can see the maps, that probably means it's not the code that scrambles/descrambles the contents of the file so that they can't be hacked, since the maps use the same code.

I never get mission objectives, either, just "End of Action Reports" which tell me after I've accomplished them what they were.

I chalked it up to bad design, not realizing it was a bug.

I'm running Win98 SE and used all the standard "Drengin.Net" install options. If the bug is related to over-long pathnames, perhaps the D.N users are more likely to be affected, as the path to the AP directory is longer.

I think that I've fixed this bug. It'll be up in the next update.  I've got a few more things to work on before it can go up.

Just to clarify -- the missing text bug is fixed... or are you referring to another bug? If its the text bug, was the problem OS-specific? Just curious. ETA for update?

Thanks for your attention this.

Yes, I am referring to the missing text bug.

I think that all of the people who reported it run 98/ME. It didn't show up on my PCs, which run XP, or I would have caught it before it went out like that.

I will try to get the update up for the weekend, but I've made some major changes to the save game format (you should still be able to load your old save games) that I want to test to make certain I didn't leave anything out.

I just updated AP through Stardock and the missing text is back where it belongs :). I hope it is also back or the others who had this problem. Thanks Cari for your prompt attention to the bug.

I downloaded the update but still don't get mission briefing text. Oddly the update seemed to be for GC and GC multimedia, not for AP.

I can and have always been able to read the mission briefings in the scenario editor.

Would I need to restart the campaign in order for the mission briefing fix to take effect?
