Just got my AP registration. Can't download.

I just got an email today with my AP serial number. I successfully registered on Stardock, but when I try to download, I come up with the following error.

Download: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\gcx.zip 0 (http error -8)
Result: Installation failed

Aarrgh!! My hopes dashed once again. :sniff:

Does anyone know what is wrong?

Got that too... How about simply trying it again?

The 2nd time it seemed to work for me but I had to cancel the DL anyways because I got to go now and only have dialup.

Wonder why Stardock didn't implement a resume download feature in it's downloading-software.

SDC does support file resume.  But if it finds the file is corrupt it deletes it and starts over.

Though I am not sure what caused your problem you stated above.  It might have been due to a server restart that we needed to do earlier.

I had the same problem, I tried twice and couldn't get the download to work, it wouldn't recognise my serial numbers although they are valid? :notsure:

So were you able to download it?

I think watsondurber got it. Show Pre-Release versions must be checked under the View menu or elsewhere in SDC or you wouldn't have been able to see it.

The http -8 error is probably if the connection to the server failed when requesting the next chunk of a file. Already spoken with Brian about making those new error codes more descriptive.

It does not showup in my stardock list. The option in settings is set, I am on 1.30.xxx but nothing. The only think I can think to ask is whether it makes a difference whether you bought the download vs. CD?

Thanks

It keeps telling me my serial number is invalid, but I copied and pasted it from the email. I don't see in the previous posts what to do about this. Can someone help? :notsure:

Did you copy and paste your GalCiv:Altarian Prophecy serial #? Yoru regular GalCiv one won't work.

If you have more than one email address make sure you use the email address in which we sent the serial number to.  Also, make sure you are selecting Altarian Prophecy from the Product drop down list.

If you are still having problems registering please send me an email ([email protected]) and include your login.txt file which is located in the directory where Stardock Central is installed (default: c:\program files\stardock\sdcentral\)

Yes, I did. Copied and pasted directly from the email. It says the number is invalid.

I started the download now. It tried to resume at 14% from yesterday but then came up with the http error -8.

I retried it several times and always got the http -8 quite fast.

Now I hope I am over the hill as it didn't show up again and I am at 7% already...

I hate the german Telekom for advertising DSL so much but not being able to provide it to our household! >:(

Please do not swear on these forums.

You Americans are strange! First you give us TV-Shows such as South-Park and then you expect us not to swear! LOL

By the way I got a bug for you... but I think there's another thread around for this...

If you copied and paisted, make sure there's no spaces at the end. Windows likes adding them as padding sometimes, and they trip up the serial check, or at least they used to.

Also, there was a bug about two days ago where everyone was being refused.
