Altarian Prophecy (Beta) Bug Reports

Altarian Prophecy (Beta) Bug Reports

Please specify which version of the beta you are using. You will probably be told to upgrade if you are using an older version.

Please install and run SmartException from the free stuff tab in Stardock Central so that if the beta crashes, it will generate a report that you can send to me with your debug.err files and save games.

Please update the non-expansion part of Gal Civ if you haven't, but please note that your save games will be messed up because of the additional improvements.

I will want any save games that reproduce bugs, particularly crashes.  Save games in Altarian prophecy are only one file, no folders.  Go ahead and e-mail them to me along with a description of how to reproduce the bug.  You can still report the bug here, but I always take save games that reproduce the bug.

Please report typos in the typo thread.  String Not Found bugs are not typos.  When you see a string not found, send me your debug.err file before starting a new game.

Please give as much detail as possible when reporting bugs so that I can reproduce it more easily.

- resource starbases should be exempt from logistics count

- Mini-Freighters make blue targetting circle show up on main map for the target planet. This started happening a few versions ago.

- "Prison Break" should get ships appropriate for stage of game.
(Prison break shouldn't be battle cruisers when everyone has dreadnaughts)
[Do something similar to how the worms were beefed up]
Pirates should also get ships appropriate for that stage of the game.

- When you acquire a better government through trade, it doesn't prompt to change.

- The Arcean leader was assasinated ("Die Humans!"). Two turns later, the UP had the Galactic Ceasefire resolution, but the Arceans did not stop their war. In fact, the Arceans voted in favor of the ceasefire.

- Eliminated AI players can get the "morality change" event.

- I have an AI planet in sector 0,0, invisible off upper left corner of screen. It has no name, but the Korx colony ship is waiting in sector 0,0 by the upper-left corner of the screen. I have the savefile, if anyone is intested. (In fact, I'm probably going to submit the game once I'm done.)

The prices chared by Terran Manufacturing are still somewhat unusual.

I somehow have the feeling that negative interest is not quite appropriate.

I just beat the second mission of the campaign, and i exited to the main menu after the third one had just loaded up. When I went back to continue, it did not recognize that I had beaten mission 2 and i started back up on an autosave about 10 turns before I had won. I would send in a saved game, but I don't seem to be able to save either.

At least you get autosaves! :) My game doesn't produce them so if I crash mid-scenario I have to start from the beginning of the mission again. Somehow it remembers that.

JT, if you are enjoying the game, more power to you. :D

As I think has been mentioned:

UI Bug: Gameplay effect - Cosmetic
Team embarassment if not resolved before shiping - Probable. ;)

String Not Found on Morality statistic. I have a morality of *11*. I mention this as I only recall it being mentioned that the Saintly string was missing.

Thanks for the fun game!

CTDs: I've found that if you start getting CTDs every turn or every other turn in AP, rebooting Windows makes the go away. This might suggest that there is a memory-leak somewhere or that it is not handling virtual memory properly.

This is a silly thing, but I'll report it anyway. On the election screen, if you click in one of the graph bars for the political parties and then roll the mouse wheel, the bar moves up and down. The number doesn't change or anything, but the effect is odd.

Very minor error: Wrong error message displayed to user.

When player tries to build a starbase module that costs money and the player's treasury is negative, the message that tells the player that he cannot build the module is the 'UP has forbidden the construction of starbases with more then 0 modules' message. Gave me a start the first time I saw it, as I was worried I'd missed a meeting of the UP somehow. ;)

Just something to be picked up in the final polishing of AP. Thanks for the great game!

I just had a game in which ships and starbases stopped showing up in the galaxy map. They showed fine in the main display. I have a save from after they stopped showing up if you want it, CariElf.

Save game: This definitely needs work. When I try to save a game nothing happens. My save game does not appear in the list of saved games and I cannot use load game from within a scenario to load a game.
End of quote

Campeign games have to be loaded from within the campeign dialogs, using the 'reset' button. This is also probably the answer to the person that doesn't see the autosaves, although there could be another issue involved.

To answer another related question, loading EndGameSave should start the next scenerio, although I haven't actually tried it.

Actually, AFAICT, they do get improvements, in the exact same way the space monsters do: increases to their racial abilities. They just have a lower base 'ship', and as a result take longer to improve than the mosters do. Same with the Pirates. In fact, prison escapees are of the 'Pirates!' race. Any change to one changes the other.

one think that i've noticed in AP is that i've yet to see the fundimentilists show up.. in over 10 games of AP all AI's are pure evil and even when I'm evil.. still they don't sgow up

feature request: show the amount of trade you're doing with a minor on their status screen under diplo->'minor races'->'race foo'.

Better still would be a unified trade screen that shows the amount of trade you're doing with all races (including minors), the number of trade routes per race and an option to show a detailed popup for each race. Culture bombing would be oh-so-nice if I knew who my income was coming from :-)

bug: you can park a constructor on top of a resource without building a starbase, cheap and easy way to deny resources to the AI. I have some funny screenshots of one parked constructor surrounded by about ~20 AI constructors.

This ain't a bug, it a feature :D LOL :D LOL
Please don't take it away. The AI also uses this "feature" The only way to get them off a resource is to start a war with them, either yourself or get someone else to do it.

Well, I've finally downloaded GC-AP and started playing a game problem free without any help. BUT, I can't seem to find any instructions or manual for the scenario editor. It should be available - when I click on Help in the editor it tells me it's not found, then prompts me if I want to search for it myself, then the editor CTD's. I've searched through the GC directory and all subdirectories for any files from 2004 in pdf or notepad format and there's nothing. I also downloaded the latest game manual and there's nothing for AP or the scenario editor. I've been WAY anxious to use this feature :d - any help here? Thanx!

Also not sure if this has been reported yet but none of the campaign info shows up when I try to load the campaigns, checked using the GC editors and it is there though..... puzzling.

Exar

edit: also the loader still seems a bit dodgy, I have alot fewer CTDs when I run the AP exe from the command line - not sure why. It also seems to flicker and disappear across the screen.

I get the same flickering and jumping across the screen as I try to drag the loader. It always appears half out of the screen too.

A couple of minor issues...

Auto-survey seems to get broken half-way through a game, and just will not work again.

It is possible to have more than 1 logistics management center - 1 game I had 2 AIs surrender to me with one of their planets building LMCs (I'd already built one + SRC). As they only had 1 turn to complete I let them finish. Next time I built a starbase it said I had a Logistics ability of 90 (3 * 25 + 15).

I wonder what would happen if it got above 100 this way - do you get money for building SBs ;)

Don't know if this happened in 1.2, but I never noticed it before.

feature request: a pop-up or box to manually type in the number of colonists to load on a colony ship. Think about what happens when you try to launch 200m from a system containing 90b people: if you don't use a wheelmouse you have to set the slider to 0 then click the right arrow 200 times (ouch!).

I just downloaded and installed the latest beta last night. I started a new game (not a campain, just a regular game) and the alignments for all the AI's were Pure Good. I thought that to be odd!

Also various "string not found"'s in the Stats area when viewing espionage on various AI's. I noticed it for the Yor and the Drengin. I can get the exact fields if needed.
I noticed that when you have a morality event, a scroll bar appears over on the right side of the text, blocking the last part of the text. It doesn't happen for all events so I'll look for which ones it does happen with and get back to you.

bonscott, the Pure Good thing is just the default now. You can adjust them at will--or pick one of the custom designs where it assigns them according to the scenario you pick.

I can't seem to save a game during a caimpaign. When I try, it doesn't seem to persist.

If I return to the main menu, I can continue the caimpaign from the last autosave. However, if I exit the game and come back, I am forced to start at scenario 1.

Is this the design? I don't think I'd have enough time to play through nine scenarios in a sitting.

I'd be interested in seeing how they play out - though they seem inconsistent in difficultly. Scenario 1 is very difficult (I liked it a lot and it beat me the first couple times I tried it - something that hasn't happened in a while). I won scenario #2 before I finished colonization or even built a freighter, since I was the Altarians only viable trading option... The third scenario looked challenging, but I haven't been able to save a game so I can get back to it..

A positive note: Nice work on the new races!

On the screen after hitting the campaings button on the main menu, should be a "Reset" button in the lower right corner. If you click on this it should bring up the campaing-saves
