PC savvy guys, please help!!

Lately I've been getting constant "Scrip Error" warnings when surfing the net and a friend of mine said when he got his PC last year he got rid of it with some fix or update from the Microsoft site, but can't remember which one..... does anyone here know which one it is?

I did a search for script errors but a bunch of different patches/fixes came up and I'm not sure which one to download to stop these annoying popups.

I've made sure that the "Display notification about every script error" in IE is unchecked but that doesn't help..... it does it anyway.

Anyone know what I need to do?

Could try updating your Java Runtimes (if thats the script error your getting)..or upgrade your browser altogether if you arent using the latest and greatest..

Probably a good idea to dump Microsoft VM, since they aren't supporting it anymore and there own site has a redirect up for it....but you may still have it running.
After following Double Zero's link to "Java" and installing...restart then right click on your Internet Explorer...go to the "Advanced" tab...scroll down to the "Java" section...uncheck the Microsoft VM (I think there are 3 entries) and make sure the Sun Java is checked. You'll have to restart after you do this.
While you're in the "Advanced" tab up towards the top is a box to check that will disable checking for script errors...which would solve the immediate annoying pop-ups....and hasn't effected my use at all!!!

Sorry it took me so long to get back, anyway..... this is something that happened to four of us who all bought our PCs at the same time (we all got HPs but different models) and one of the windows updates fixed it. However, I'm the only one whose PC wouldn't accept SP2 and I wound up reinstalling the original WindowsXP and so the problem with "script errors" arose again.

The SP2 situation has been a NIGHTMARE.... the three times I tried installing it it would tell me that the system was unstable and to remove it. I wound up taking it to "Best Buy" where I bought it. First they told me it was the WindowBlinds and those programs that were interfering with it, then they said it was my PC that wasn't compatible with SP2 , but HP said that was not true either........ To make a long story short, after keeping my PC for about three weeks they told me they had installed SP2 with no problem, but three days after I got it home my PC stopped working. In frustration I reinstalled the original WindowsXP and that's when the script error thing started again. I have a suspicion that Best Buy mickeymoused SP2 into my PC.

As I said, I do have "Display a notification about every script error" unchecked. I have done a search at "Microsoft Windows Update" site I just can't figure out which of all the patches/fixes is the one I need.

Since it happened to all of us I thought maybe someone here would remember it happening to them and know which fix to get.

I know its a long shot but I thought I'd give it a try.

Thanks fellas.

The only thing I'm sure of is that it's one of the Windows Update fixes or patches.
