Bug Reports for Gal Civ 1.19

Bug Reports for Gal Civ 1.19

If you are getting crashes, you may be asked to install SmartException from Stardock Central under the free stuff tab.

I will want any save games that reproduce bugs, particularly crashes.

Games saved under 1.19 will be only 1 file.  1.13 files should load, but you may want to archive 1.13 and backup your save games before loading just in case.  The new save game format is more robust than the old one, so future updates should not corrupt save games.

Please report typos in the typo thread.

Please give as much detail as possible when reporting bugs so that I can reproduce it more easily.

Here are copies of my current bug report spreadsheets so that you can search them for your bugs.  The one for normal Gal Civ probably has some bug reports that are redundant or have been fixed.  When in doubt, report the bug.  Also, all the version numbers for the reports may not be accurate, as I only added that field in recently and had to have a default value. So if I wasn't sure that I fixed it, I gave it the version 1.13 and left it there.

http://www.joeuser.com/sdfiles/gal%20civ%20report%20tracking%20spreadsheet.xls

It's my hope that providing  and updating these spreadsheets regularly will cut down on the redundant reports here.  If you have a save game to reproduce a bug reported in the spreadsheets, send me the game.

This is a link to clean data files if you've mixed mods into your base install but don't want to re-install all of Gal Civ.

I have now played two games unter v1.19. I have not been able to submit either of them. In the previous version of 1.13 a message would appear saying it had summitted with no errors, etc. This time, no message at all, just the disappearnce of the submit window.

Also, I could not get past "good" alignment, even though I had an alignment score of 100 - only good, not saintly. Is this a change?

I agree with the cost of starbases. My last starbase I had to pay 6400bc for. Not a problem per se, but if trying to claim resources in the end game fighting, it is a lttle steep.

My biggest concern is submission issues. Not sure why I cannot submit.

Hmmm...I may have to add a bug in scoring to the above list. I submitted two 1.19 games to the Metaverse and while both seem to have registered my score doesn't seem to have changed as it should have.

I submitted approx 12,000 points worth of game but I don't think my overall Metaverse score went up at all.

Weyrleader: This seems to be a bug/typo in what is in english.str. It looks like "Good" and "Saintly" were switched. :)

I haven't been able to finish a 1.19 game yet. Hangs and crashes have abruptly prevented me from being able to get to an endpoint.

The big ones that keep coming up:
- Changing alignment from Neutral to Good caused the game to close. As in I got saw the graphics shift to the pretty 'good' colours and then there was no longer a GalCiv screen on my computer.
- Each time the vote is decided on the 'exchanging technology to make everyone more equal' council topic, the number to be exchanged is greater than 0, and when I hit DONE the whole game hangs. It has to be killed from the process list to recover.

In looking at English.str, the following was found:

[ChaoticGood] Saintly
[Good] Good
[Neutral] Neutral
[Evil] Evil
[ChaoticEvil] Demonic

It appears to me that ChaoticGood and Chaotic Evil were both interchanged with their good and evail equivalent. That is, chaoticgood is less than good and chaoticevil is less evil than evil and it is reversed in 1.19

In exploring the problem of not being able to submit a game, I discovered the following: I finish a game in v1.19 and submit. It does not submit. I reload the endgamesave and what gets loaded is not the same game I just finished, but a previous game, one I played in v1.13 I think, although I am missing another game that did not submit, but perhaps this is it, not sure. In anycase, I can reload the previous save and get the v1.19 game back, but it apparently is not saving properly or perhaps it is saving in another place. Any ideas? Anyone else have this problem? It is reproducible. I can complete the game from the previous save (-2 turns from victory), win again, get the submit screen, and immediately get the main menur. I then reload the endgamesave and get the previous game. >:( :(

Looking at the games you just submitted, the score is a lot lower than the other two for your february block. It wont increase your score much if you submit lower scoring games than you usually do.

Read the darn updates....
Delete old saves first.. as 1.13 used multiply files in save... 1.19 doesn't.. it uses only 1.. the load routine sees multiple files in the save game and thinks it's trying to load a 1.13 game... so "DETELE" all old save games ... especialy autosaves... and prevous autosave... prior to saving..

I just wanted to add a little bit of clarification: :)

You can LOAD a 1.13 game, but as soon as you do, you'd be wise to delete that save and re-save it. (And do everything else JT recommended, of course!)

Thank for the advice. I must have missed that advice from somewhere. Still can't find it. Is it in a read file somewhere that I can read before Stardock updates the game?

Well,
I have only one .sav file in the d:\Galactic Civilaton\Data\SaveGames folder. It is the EndGameSave.sav
When I reload it it is the correct game. So far so good. But, it still will not submit and the submit screen exits immediately to the Main Menu. Have I missed something else somewhere in the various threads on this board? Thank all for your help.

cheers :HOT:

I am trying to understand what one should really do before upgrading to 1.19. The above is the only quote I have seen about the number of files in the save folder. It doesn't say anything about deleting all the other files in the save file, just that a 1.13 game can be loaded and resaved as a 1.19 saved game and that one might want to back up some of those files before doing it "just in case."

Can someone else point me to the quote that
Delete old saves first.. as 1.13 used multiply files in save... 1.19 doesn't.. it uses only 1.. the load routine sees multiple files in the save game and thinks it's trying to load a 1.13 game... so "DETELE" all old save games ... especialy autosaves... and prevous autosave... prior to saving..

Had a UPtech vote, got 5 tech changed, and it DIDN'T crash! :SURPRISED: :CONGRAT: Very good! But have had numberous problems with unexpected crashes to the desktop, never had before. With my save games, I use a few base names, and have saved over with new games, and go to load later and get an old game, but timestanp is new. Might just be because of the old version base save, probably my fault.

(JT Qwerk).. it makes no difference wether your good nuetral or evil... moral isn't linked to your moral decisions..
End of quote

I didn't know which you meant because you keep misspelling morale. On the point of the increasing back to 1%, that is a bit odd (I actually have a hard time getting morale down to 0% at all... it never drops below 1% except when dealing with the occasional event or extreme insolvancy).

(Weyrleader) Thank for the advice. I must have missed that advice from somewhere. Still can't find it. Is it in a read file somewhere that I can read before Stardock updates the game?

I noticed a few bugs in my current game
- The AI is beating the crap out of me (:( , but this might not be a bug after all ;)
- I've had the wrong load game problem as well: it reloaded my last save of my previous game (1.13). But I guess this has been explained.
- Twice so far, I've had tech trades, proposed by AIs -- very favorable trades (battleship tech against something). The problem is that on my side of the trade board, there was nothing (and it was not the gift text -- it was really a trade offer and they didn't like me and were far more powerfull)! I accepted it and did get the new tech. Later on, another AI came to me offering a trade, this time I could just say if I accepted it or not, but there was nothing showing in any side of the trade: I don't know what was offered and what was asked from me. (I rejected, just in case it was something like all I have against all you have, including your planets, shirts and underwear...)
- although that my alignement is now 100, I'm only "good".

For the first time in many games, all minors disappeared, including Carinoids, Alexians and Fundies. Were they made a little less powerfull?

No CTD problems so far :)

I had already looked there. I did not see anything in the thread the refered to what needed to be done before installing v1.19. Carielf did talk about all the changes and bugs fixed and there were short comments relating to that, but no information regarding pre-install changes.

Thanks for the pointer though.

I guess I missed that comment because I thought it was about a typo thing... Thks -- I hope this doesn't change my moral alignement in case I submit the game? (I'm fighting hard to deserve the little white saintly smiley face :) )

Well, that's what I thought at first.
But usually there is a text like "your benevolence impress us, we decided to gift you, etc" or "we will help you in your efforts, etc".
Nothing like this this time: the text was "we want to trade with you". Same thing next time, when there was nothing in both sides. (in both cases there was nothing visible for me or the AI in the lists fields -planets, techs, etc- but I cannot remember if it is like that usually).

If this hadn't happened twice, and specially with the nothing versus nothing (apparently at least) I would not have mentionned it. No big deal though, just repeating what I saw, you never know... :)

Random event bug:

The Torians just found a pre-coursor device that increased the PQ of all planets in their sector by 13.

Not bad except there is only 1 planet in their star system: Homeworld. This random event should check to make sure there are planets available. BTW, I never get this event, always an AI gets it.

I have also had problems with many CTDs. In my current game ive had about one every 5 minutes and in my last game it happened everytime I attacked an alien ship.
Also sometimes There are strange numbers in the senate. Ill have 100 members but the other parties will have members too, resulting in more than 100 member total.
Yeah i got it a couple of times during the game too. The same thing happened in my last game when i invaded a minor i got 104 votes for invasion and 4294967292 against??

Things are broken on the other end of the morality spectrum as well. I colonized a world, took a +15% Production bonus, a -10 Morality hit and just like that -- I'm Demonic evil at 40. Is this the correct behavior?
