Bug Reports for Gal Civ 1.19

If you are getting crashes, you may be asked to install SmartException from Stardock Central under the free stuff tab.

I will want any save games that reproduce bugs, particularly crashes.

Games saved under 1.19 will be only 1 file.  1.13 files should load, but you may want to archive 1.13 and backup your save games before loading just in case.  The new save game format is more robust than the old one, so future updates should not corrupt save games.

Please report typos in the typo thread.

Please give as much detail as possible when reporting bugs so that I can reproduce it more easily.

Here are copies of my current bug report spreadsheets so that you can search them for your bugs.  The one for normal Gal Civ probably has some bug reports that are redundant or have been fixed.  When in doubt, report the bug.  Also, all the version numbers for the reports may not be accurate, as I only added that field in recently and had to have a default value. So if I wasn't sure that I fixed it, I gave it the version 1.13 and left it there.

It's my hope that providing  and updating these spreadsheets regularly will cut down on the redundant reports here.  If you have a save game to reproduce a bug reported in the spreadsheets, send me the game.

This is a link to clean data files if you've mixed mods into your base install but don't want to re-install all of Gal Civ.

If you have problems overwriting 1.13 games, try deleting the old game and then saving the new one.

English.str doesn't include a description entry for the new Logistics ability. Is this intentional, or an oversight?

I noticed that as I started a game, the minor races tab in the foreign relations was showing, but I had not encounted any minors yet. Is this new, or error, I am not sure.
In the manual, the life force resource is still showing, and a progressive party is in the manual, but not in the game.

If you're in debt, you can no longer build any starbases. It says that it costs zero credits, and you don't have enough money. Bug or intentional?

Why do I now have to pay 200 credits in order to build my second starbase? and what is Logistics ability?

Auto-survey now stops working while there are still anomalies left.
If you try to build a terror star while in debt, you get an inappropriate message about a maximum of 0 modules.
When I completed the game and tried to submit, it failed and gave me no message that it had failed. I reloaded the endgamesave - it didn't work. I got a completely messed up galaxy. I loaded my last autosave, and it seemed to work, but when I terror starred the final alien planet, it crashed on 'next turn'. Do you want these save games mailed to you?

Additional information: The failure to submit wasn't itself a bug; I lacked a functioning internet connection at the time.
After a few tries, I managed to get the autosaved version to work by conquering the last planet instead of destroying it.

In the Diplomacy window, when manually entering a duration for a Money deal, you can enter an arbitrarily large amount (e.g.),

100 bc for
9999999999 months

which results in an overflow and line wrap when returning to the Diplomacy window (e.g.),

100 for 14100655407
month(s)

Using the arrows/slider limits the duration to 50 months as before. What is the intended range supposed to be?

Be seeing you...

Naqmir there are many posts that state you shouldnt update your game version before you finish the game you have been playing. Most upgrades are incompatable with your previous save games. Best guess is that yu are very lucky to get your 1.11 games to load with no issues.

In the Foreign Policy window, after clicking on the Minor Races button for the first time (or the first time following a reload), the arrows surrounding the Speak To button are missing. After clicking on another Minor's icon in the upper right of the window, the arrows appear.

I had a similar problem with some of my own mods (plus the game would crash whenever I tried to save). In my case, it turned out that one of them had a description string that was too long. Shortening that seems to have fixed the problem.

I don't recall having the problem in 1.13, so perhaps new limits have been added to some of those fields?

Very minor bugs:

The popup desctiption for resources has two percent sings, ie "...recieve an additional 5%% to morale". On all resources.

In the domestic screen the # of elected seats for my party is 100, when it showld be forty-something. This is from a loaded game, and I am pretty sure that it will be corrected at the next election. It might be more serious if this still happens when you have lost the senate.

Theres a seperate thread for typos where this should probably go.

Heh... I was just there and mentioned it, so don't worry about it. :)

Are you sure it stops working? In my game, it appeared that way superficially. Upon closer examination, however, I found that it is because I had more ships surveying than anomalies, and since the way auto-survey works was changed so that only one ship can go to one anomaly, all ships that don't have a corresponding anomaly go idle.

I went to restore a saved gave while the time stamp in the saved game looks fine, the game that was restored was the wrong game.

Negative morale doesn't make any sense. How can less than zero people be happy? Illegal immigrants? :notsure:

Negative morality similarly doesn't make much sense, given that 0 represents 'Pure' evil and 100 'Pure' good, although there is a little more sense than with negative morale (harder to change your ways if you've been 'pure evil' longer or some such).

to see what I mean... raise your tax rate up slowly till moral on an individual panet reaches 0 .. then keep raising the tax rates you'll see that the moral goes back up to 1.. I also get it a lot when I have just captured a planet.. and if they recon that my tax rate is too high.. (IE: they arn't as developed as the rest of my existing planets).. it makes no difference wether your good nuetral or evil... moral isn't linked to your moral decisions..

I just finished my first 1.19 game and here are the bugs and a few musings with respect to the cost of starbases.

Bugs:

1. The bug where Intel reports would show up twice on subsequent turns is back. I had Intel reports for all surviving races appear when my espionage rank moved to "Advanced" and the following turn the same set of pop-ups came around again.

2. Two CTD events, both times it happened immediately after one alien ship attacked another alien ship. Smart Exception hasn't worked for me for months so I can't be more specific.

3. One hang. I had to reboot the machine to regain control.

4. The Drengin were dead. Approx 40 turns after their demise a random event popped up that proclaimed that they had had a change of heart and were now good.

5. Space Pirates random event - The Good choice had two minus signs in front of the number of BC it would cost to choose it.

On the change in starbase build costs...I understand why it was implemented but as a way to stop players from culture bombing it seems a bit extreme. I could make things unplayable on larger galaxies due to the high cost of building starbases.

One suggestion I offer is to either remove or drastically reduce the build cost when building on a resource but keep the cost as it is when building elsewhere.

I have reloaded an game I started earlier on this version, and when election first time after reload, my party had 100 seats, and about 30 seats belonged to others (I had about 70). Also noted in post #16 by another player.
