If could be established a system of levels with this is just an example:

Emperor Level: For those playing masso, they can keep the scores and the scoring system, but only the masso scores will be counted in this level, like we have for good, evil and neutral players.

Senator level: from tough to crippling
Overlord level: for the lower levels cakewalk to challenging.

You could be as a player in any of the 3 categories, like we have in good evil and neutral and then score there according with your game abilities.

I had a thought. What about a "Player ran Unofficial Metaverse" broke down the way you said? Just transfer the scores from the official one over to a private website? Just a thought.

That would be some undertaking. i'll use the diplomats website to host it if someone can come up with the html spreadsheets for me to use :)

I will start a excel sheet where all the players with Masso abilities will be posted, I will start with the top 25, let me see how it comes out.
ok but i cant edit it as i havent got excel :)
I will do it in Excel because it will allow me to do the calculations but I can save it as a word document for you, will that work for you?

Shalom,

I can't access the Diplomat forum from work because of our firewall. Please see my message in the Galactic Council.

Should do. if i cant get it to work from there then we can work it out later. Need to see if theres enough people who like the idea before i put any time into it. if no one is going to use it then it would be a waste of time :notsure:

I am writing here to answer Theoden, this is my answer to your topic that I believe doesnot belong there but here, where other players who feel the same way as I do could answer your opinion, this is my response:

I didn't mention any names because my purpose is not to get the players who are in Masso categories down, my goal is to have 3 divisions, if you can work your way up, fine with me, I am not criticizing the Masso players, but it is very discriminatory to rward a masso player 60K when someone playing a Tough level only gets 13K, that is not right, we must have a separation according with the level of the players, if you can play Masso go ahead and play it, but do it in your own division with players that can challenge you, no in lower divisions where the other players cannot answer you. That is fair, you don't see in boxing a guy 500 pounds fighting with a guy that is 125 pounds, why because there are divisions according with your wieght. Well there should also be divisions according with your ability playing the game.

They already divide the metaverse in the alignments, why not go one step further and divide it by difficult.

When you go from one of the three levels you keep your score but keep adding to it and move up the ranks there.

It sounds like a plan to me, however I am not quite sure about how hard it would be to impliment.
ok the "Unofficial Player Ranks - Divisioned" will go ahead (if we can get it to work) Shalom go ahead with the excel spreadsheet. i know someone that will help on that side.

I think this is an excellent idea Shalom! As some here probably know, this is very similar to Civfanatics.com's division of Civ3 players into 3 categories for GOTM games! I wonder why Stardock hasn't already done this? :notsure:

Fine. I asked to keep this private. This subject has, in the past, caused a flame war.

Congratulations.

It is very disapointing that a player with just a handfull of games can make it to the top 25 when other player with over 200 games can't.
End of quote

I could crank out a couple hundred games in a month or two.......but what does that prove......meaning I (or any maso player) could play at that level and control the top spots there too. I don't think the number of games factor is as important as the difficulty factor, because the easier level games can be played much quicker. Don't take this the wrong way, because 200+ games is an amazing accomplishment, but things are what they are.....easy is easy and hard is hard. Frankly, I'm surprised it bothers you that someone with less wins has a higher ranking. Everyone has the same opportunity to advance. :notsure:

Just to set the record straight, the quoted message was from me, Consul Slothrop, and not Anya157. I was using Anya157's laptop to check my email, and thought I would start up SDC to see what was going on. One thing lead to another and next I know, I mistakingly posted, and it came out from Anya157. :(

[For the record, I don't expect the real Anya157 to show up on galciv.com forum until probably this weekend.]

Will the real Anya157 please stand up?

Anyway, why should your games from one level count in another level. With the Good/Neutral/Evil categories the same player can be (and is) in all three categories. Why not let your maso games count there, your tough to crippling count in its place, and cakewalk to challenging count in its place. That way, players aren't pigeonholed into only competing in maso if they move up to that level (I would love to play a tough game every once in a while and not have it hurt my score).

Another benefit, I think, is it makes the html programming a little easier because it just would search the database for game types rather than a more complicated sorting.

What do you think?

ok the "Unofficial Player Ranks - Divisioned" will go ahead
End of quote

Spellforce I am worried this could lead to players being divided between the two sites, is it possible you could get in touch with stardock and see if this or some other solution could be hosted at Galciv.com. This is not to say I don't think the idea has merit :) I just wouldn't want to see a split in the metaverse. :notsure:

Regards

Exar :)

Looks like we nay be able to sort out the programmnig for the "Unofficial Metaverse". Alex will look into doing it over half-term (mid Feb)

We will keep you posted

Why not see if this could spring off the statbot in some way. You could use the average difficulty it calculates to separate and group the players. The data is there.... :)

Also, it would be better to use a database instead of excel as it could be more automated...
Terl. Already thought of that. Alex is going to see if he can get the datbase sortedand then we'll ask nicely to  Idleprocess for his 'strings' :) Its a case of wait and see at the moment.

"Player ran Unofficial Metaverse"

Interestingly, a similar idea was floated months ago in the old FOTR thread (or maybe even the original White Council thread, I'm not really sure anymore), back when masochistic games were being inadequately rewarded. In version 1.05 and earlier, there was a strong disincentive to play maso from a scoring standpoint--crippling games typically got you a better score for less work. That wasn't the main issue, though--the main complaint that people had (and still, quietly, have) was that the scoring system encourages milking.
