Logo's?

Logo's?

Whats legal and whats not?

I have to ask....

What is leagal to upload and what is not when it comes to LOGOs? IE: Toyota/Honda/Coke/NFL Teams/ETC/ETC???
I had the above skin up about a year ago with several different logos in it, and they were all dumped from the site, and I was told that im not allowed to upload skins with company logo's in them.

Yet I see all these wallpapers and skins that use ATI, HONDA, TOYOTA, etc LOGOS in them and im just trying to figure out where the line is drawn?

The skin i had simply had the NFL teams logo in a jewel and the color of the skin matched the teams colors, these were being downloaded like mad, but then they were removed.

I just want to know what makes them different from this https://www.wincustomize.com/ViewSkin.aspx?SID=1&SkinID=21724&LibID=8 or https://www.wincustomize.com/ViewSkin.aspx?SID=1&SkinID=21537&LibID=8 and what about https://www.wincustomize.com/ViewSkin.aspx?SID=1&SkinID=325&LibID=34

Why are these allowed and my NFL skin removed? Could i use the Coke logo and make a clock for DX with it or not?

I am NOT trying to get my skins back up, as I am more then aware that the NFL is VERY possive of their logos, and i do not need to be reminded of their "rules"

I just want to get some idea about what i can and cant upload. Can someone please let me know what the rules are?

It just all seems like a gray area to me.
Some logo's are ok, some are not, some should have permission, some just wont fly.

Can you get permission from Honda to use there "H" for a wallpaper?
Ok, lets take this a step further.

If i "make" a pillow (just as an example, im not a seemstruss) with a LOGO of my favorite Nascar team, or my favorite NFL team, and it never leaves my room then its no one's business that i even made it...

NOW... Someone comes over and see's it, loves it, and wants me to make one for them, I do so for FREE, and GIVE it to them, then their neighbor happens to work for Said NFL/NASCAR team, and goes nuts over it, and wants me flogged, see where im going?

Ok, same thing here, I make a skin for ME, someone see's it and wants a "copy" much easier for me to do then the pillow, then they give a Copy to somene else, and somewhere down the line someone who knows "JR" see it, and they show him, and he wants to know who is distributing HIS logo... Make any sense?

To me, if i was an admin here, the policy would be simple...

Unless you REPRESENT the company that OWNS the logo, and have in writing permission to use it, then dont post it. No fuss no muss, no honda, no NFL, no worries about the NFL police showing up at WC and shutting them down.

Or, am i out of line here?

OK....doing your own artwork to represent a 'logo' is fine.

It is called 'fan art' and/or 'fair use'.

Cut and paste isn't acceptable.

WHEN the Logo 'owner' requests its removal it will be removed.

Currently it is already established that NO American Football Team logos are permitted in any form, as they have STRICT control over their image.

If you see one here it will be removed.

Apple is another company with a history of disquiet with regards to their intellectual property, so only 'value-added' images 'may' be suitable.  A simple wall with an Apple logo is not 'value add' to a skin project.

concering American Football does that mean just NFL or include AFL (Arena Football) I would be very surprised to see the AFL not want free publicity.

UpsideDown, the question you have to ask yourself is: does this organisation SELL accessories with their logo on it? If so, then consider that the freely distributed use of their logo may be considered a loss of revenue for them and they would therefore object to its existance.
Sports leagues almost make more money from TShirt, hats, etc then they do from ticket sales...
