I can certainly relate. I have a lot of chat-friends from OZ including some that would sponsor. Sounds ike a wonderfull place, with a bit of demented humor that, is right up me alley. lol. I like Pres Bush, but would have loved to heard the heckling he got there recently. LOL

I am another British player, born in Kinrossshire, Scotland. Earlier this year I emigrated to California, but then I had to leave the US before I could be deported. I am now back in Sussex, England, where I have lived most of my life.

Back in the late 90's I lived in Venice, Ca. In the Westside area (especially Santa Monica) there was an enormous British ex-patriot population. Great Pubs!!!
Is this a common thing, do a lot of English people dream of California in a romantic way? And, for once, I'm not being a smart-ass This really is something I've wondered about for years.

Geez...you asked for that, Steve! Hey - come on down, you Yanks! Have taken the odd ride down to Charmaine's for ice cream, though! Seriously, Australia has always been a middle path between the UK and the US, in many aspects of culture. Settled by the British, and eventually conquered by American advertising! You'd love it!

Ah, California, the rolling hills, the wide open spaces, the mighty redwood forests, the magnificent budget deficits, the huge muscular governors...

Not sure about 'romantic' as such, but I'd say it was one of the few places that almost everyone thinks of as a desirable place to be.

Hmmm...I was stationed in California when I was in the US Navy. To be honest, I'll be happy if I never have to go there again. Earthquakes, no rain, high gasoline prices, rude people, the entire city of Los Angeles...hey, what's not to love?

Well, when I was there, there were no earthquakes, the gasoline prices were about a third of the normal European price, and there was no Los Angeles. Well, not in the bit of California I was in.

I suppose it's all in the perspective. I was in the military, so about the only good things I saw of California were the beautiful women and cheap liquor. Oh, I forgot to mention that my military days were not the highlight of my life. As a matter of fact, I don't remember much about them (see cheap liquor above).

I want to see Cali, but I don't think I would ever want to live there.

I went to California many, many years ago. Unfortunately, I was too young to appreciate the beautiful women and cheap liquor. Fortunately, there are some beautiful women in Sydney, and the best liquor available in California (Tijuana Tequila) is still available here at a decent price.

Northern California and Southern California are very different, Theoden. Most people from Northern California hate LA, too.

Yeah, I got that impression that Northern and Southern California didn't get along. The LA and San Diego people didn't seem to care for the San Francisco crowd, as I recall.
