The Fellowship Halls (Fellowship of the Ring Empire Thread)

Welcome to the Fellowship of the Ring Empire Thread - The Sequel. :)

The old FotR thread was getting too big and it was taking too long to load the thread, thus this new one.

"Is it safe?"

"No, it's not safe. It's very unsafe!"

I think the most terrible torture scene I saw in a movie (in the sense that I felt it physically), is in Marathon Man, where Dustin Hofman meets that crazy nazi-dentist.

The book is even stronger. I remember holding my cheek as I read that part.

(puts both hands over his mouth in terror)

You just reminded me of that!
After this talk I'll have to delay my next dentist appointment...

I don't even want to imagine it, or my dentist will never see me again ;)
I do agree with you, books are often much stronger and tougher on the reader.

I posted the following responce in the Diplomat's thread......I hope I didn't tick off anybody, but I couldn't help responding.

It is very disappointing that a player with just a hand full of games can make it to the top 25 when other player with over 200 games can't.
End of quote

I could crank out a couple hundred games in a month or two.......but what does that prove......meaning I (or any maso player) could play at that level and control the top spots there too. I don't think the number of games factor is as important as the difficulty factor, because the easier level games can be played much quicker. Don't take this the wrong way, because 200+ games is an amazing accomplishment, but things are what they are.....easy is easy and hard is hard. Frankly, I'm surprised it bothers you that someone with less wins has a higher ranking. Everyone has the same opportunity to advance.

It takes a lot of dedication and time to crank out the games the way you do, and it leaves you feeling pretty drained. I know, I did it some time back, as has Ginata/Tibet and Ray before that..

Unfortuneately there will always be people that will want to knock you for what you achieve just because it doesn't fit in to there way of thinking.

All I can say is very well done for the committment and effort shown, even if it is eating in to our lead (although you may have overtaken us by now).

We all play this game our own way, and not only do you post impressive game scores but also keep the thread going along nicely..

I do think you deserve a nice long rest now though, so have a few down the Prancing Pony on the Shark

Thanks Jaws. You're right on all counts.....except maybe the "long rest" part. LOL LOL

I know I should have more self control than that.....uh...the devil made me do it! Yeah, that's it, the devil made me do it!

(although you may have overtaken us by now).

I don't think so, not yet! (can't get into the metaverse for some reason) :notsure: But I'm confident Special Forces is poised for another surge......and so goes the struggle. (this is the fun part for me....the compitition between empires, I mean)

(I recently learned how to spell competition)

Exactly true! I love the empire concept and I truly enjoy the sense of family in the forums.

I do not think they should change the metaverse at all. Races are won by the fastest and those that can endure. If the best I can do is top 300 that is the way it is. The ones at the top now deserve to be there and I praise them for their skill and commitment. Yet the little ones, like myself, still contribute. I say, leave it as it is.

The other door that is opened if one broke up the metaverse is that someone will play at a comfortable level and dominate that section and we would have the same thing all over.

It all seems like sour grapes to me....

Unfortunately, there's always been a certain amount of resentment over the scoring system, and probably always will be. Most people who have been around for a while have been in at least one argument over it.

My sentiments, exactly……hence my previous response. (still, I probably shouldn’t have reacted as I did) This is a great community and I’m thrilled to be part of it!

Terl, you da man! Uhoh.....watch out! The Torians are attempting a flanking maneuver....

Vincible: I assume you received the Transformer pic since it didn't come back to me. Let me know if you didn't, and I'll try again. ;)
Those that care about the scoring system are missing the point, I think. They should just have fun with the game. ;)
I think the scoring is an integral part of the whole metaverse community, but it by no means the most important part..

It would be fair to say that when I first posted I didn't really know what this was all about, but wanted to see how well I could do in the metaverse ladder.. That lead on to joining an empire etc etc, such that in a few weeks time I'll be having lunch with a few people that I have met on here who I would not have known otherwise.
I'm not saying the score isn't an interesting and fun part of the Metaverse; I just think some people are getting a little too worked up about it.

Terl and Greldon: You have mail.

Jaws: Thanks for stopping in! You are 100% correct!

On the subject of further dividing the Metaverse, I can only say that it's a very bad idea. I won't comment publicly on this situation any more, as I intended originally.

Cari fixed that game I was having a problem with, so I was finally able to submit it!! It has to do with the game ID and if you have the same problem I did, let Cari know. I think she may have learned of a new little bug today! ;)

Hah! They fell for the same trap again!! In the words of Chesty Puller, "All right, they're on our left, they're on our right, they're in front of us, they're behind us....they can't get away this time!"

Good morning!

It's a beautiful morning here in sunny Virginia! The light is glistening off the ice on the roads and the wind is whistling at a brisk 30 mph, making it feel like -5° F!

Ahhhh, refreshing! LOL :SURPRISED:

We are doing about the same up here in NY. Luckily we only got about 3-4 inches instead of the projected 6-12. It is still coming down slowly.

Yes, refreshing, indeed... :)

Just got an email from our counterparts in my group that are based in Norfolk... seems like the roads are quite bad down there... Stay careful, Theoden!

Good morning to you, lucky ones whose days start at 2 pm! (my time) ;)
The cold has finally reached here too, and even a little snow, which isn't often in Paris (we have somesort of microclimate). This afternoon however temperatures have dropped severely, but it's still fine (between 0 and -5°C). It's just this damned wind that make things feel worse than they are ...

A bit too refreshing to me...

Oh, I've got a four-wheel drive...I'm invincible!! LOL

Seriously, our roads are getting in better shape. Our DOT really isn't very knowledgeable about snow removal and they are even worse about ice. But, with enough chemicals, even a Drengin could clear roads!

Good to hear you didn't get hit too hard. Did I hear somewhere that the Buffalo area gets the most snow of anywhere in the US? Because of the lake effect? :notsure:

Snowfall in Paris...now that would be nice to see! Actually, Paris in any weather would be nice to see! :HOT:

I've been there in the spring...awesome and in the summer for Bastille Day...very awesome. It is weird seeing a Burger King on the Champs Elysses (sp?) though, very weird.

Indeed!
And the good thing about this season's weather is that when arriving at home you can have a sip of french cognac to warm up.

I'd suggest visiting in may (great season here), but there will probably be a lot of strikes: trains, subway, Air France, everything: by that time the government will be trying to privatize Air France, change the national train company statuts and same thing for the national electricity company, the mail service statuts, and limit benefits from social security (last year they already added a couple of years of work before i can retire) --- so I guess this explains that.

No more Burger King's in the Champs Elysées. Only MacDo and Haggen Daaz. Not a bit less weird however!

Yes, it is the best season, except for what I just said in my previous post.
