Bug with objectdock?

Hey everybody...

I have stumbled upon an interesting bug here. I was working with OD 1.1 shareware and everything was fine and then I installed the Plus edition and the troubles started. First of all I have to admit that I did not follow the installation guidelines. I have installed the plus on top of the shareware without uninstalling first or something like that. Ok, so the strange problem is this;
I can see the tabbed bar, but when I go to the OD menu, the one that's supposed to show all the different OD bars, it's empty... Meaning that I cannot erase the bars I currently have...
I hope I made myself clear here...
Uninstalling everything and reinstalling didn't help... It stays messed up.
Oh, and bars that are added still do not appear on the list and again cannot be erased...

Help?
Thank you,
Yoav.

Usually uninstalling the free version, then installing the Plus version will fix things. After uninstalling the free version, try going in and manually deleting any remnants that may have been left behind.

I'll be more precise this time;
The situation is this - I uninstalled everything, erased all the remnants... everything.
Reinstalled the Plus version - still not working. The "My Docks" window shows no docks despite the fact that I have several on my screen.
Uninstalled everything again and reinstalled a previous plus version that had worked before and it's not working either.

Very very annoying... any ideas?

Hi

I met similiar problems.
(1). When I click "My Dock", there's no entry showing, even though I did create a dock.
(2). When I click "Tabs & Styles", there's no entry showing,
even though I did create lots of tabs.
This is very annoying because I cannot change tab's color or name. Every tab I created can only be named "New Tab".

Like Yoav1234, I did a complete uninstall but the problem remained.
Please help fix it asap, I think it's a serious bug for a product like this.
I've sent all my Object Dock Plus/*.ini to [email protected]. Hope that helps.

Hey...

I'm glad to see that I'm not mad and that there is indeed a problem...
What [email protected] described is exactly my problem.

I've also sent all my *.ini files to [email protected].

I really hope you guys could figure this out quickly...
Thanks,
Yoav.

I don't know if it helps you guys solve out this bug but this is what I tried doing;
I defined a new user on my windows [XP Pro] and tried installing the Object Dock Plus 1.1 on it and got the exact same problem. No tabs where the list of tabs should show them and no docks where the list of docks should show them. Same problem.

Don't know if it helps in any way.

Developers...

It has been almost two weeks since I reported this bug, and others are suffering from it as well... At least let us know if there's any development, any progress... Something...

We're waiting...

I've been having the same problem too. Maybe if I read that there was a bug like this, I wouldn't have been so hasty to buy OD+.

From the day I bought OD Plus till now, I had never succeeded in configuring any tab I created.
Come on, tabbed dock is the main reason I bought it. Please fix it asap.
The other cool thing is FlyOut menu.
But guess what, it also has bugs.
In addition to the bug, I hope that the performance of FlyOut menu can be improved.
I want it to be as fast as opening a folder in "My computer".
Otherwise, it will end up being a cool but not so practical toy.

Hey guys, I been focused making major strides on other projects for the last week and a half hence why I haven't been around to look more closly. Never heard of this one before this thread came about. I did take a look at the issue you've been reporting however and wonder which is the problem, the list isn't getting drawn correctly, or there's nothing getting put in there at all.

I hear that it was said that: "i have never succeeded in configuring any tab I created", can you confirm whether or not you have any luck configuring a tab by right clicking on it and selecting "Tab Settings"? By pressing that of course it will bring you into the "Tabs & Styles" area of the dock's config, but even if nothing is in the top you should be able to select a name, choose a color and style etc for the tab. If it still says "select something above" post back and let me know.... this could be going one of a few ways and that would be a good tip.

Thanks, sorry you're experiencing problems :-/

I tried it again.
No, I still cannot select anything because there's nothing I can select.
It's BLANK, no tab names at all.
I even tried to click the blank area, hoping that maybe you print the text with white color on a white background.
But still, nothing was selected.

Jeff,

I'll try and be more precise to help you locate this bug more easily;
What we are all (I believe) experiencing is this;
On a clean install - meaning;
1. unistalling the previous version.
2. Erasing all the files, both from the directory to which OD is installed on and from the Documents and Settings location.
3. Removing every mention to OD from the registery.

On this platform we now install OD+ 1.1
The problem we encounter is this;

1. We Right click on a dock (not a tab doc);
2. Select "Doc Settings".
3. Manage My Docks.

At this point what we see is this;
1. the list is totally empty (despite the fact that we do have docs present).
2. "Create new doc" and "Create new tab doc" are enabled.
3. "Remove this doc" and "Edit this doc" are disabled.

If we try to press on "Create new doc" a new doc is indeed created but is not added to the list.

the EXACT same thing happens with tabs. The list is empty, we can add new tabs but cannot see them appear on the list, erase them or edit them.

One more thing I mentioned in earlier posts but might be important as well at this point;
Unistalling OD+ 1.1 and installing OD+ 1.05 doesn't work either! same problem there, despite the fact 1.05 has previously worked fine.

I hope this helps because this is really frustrating for me personally as I believe it is for the other people here sharing this problem.

Please keep us posted and let us know if you need any help with further locating the origin of this bug.

Thank you.

Same thing happening to me. I have like 4 docks around my desktop that I can't erase. The lists for docks and tags appear empty. Needless to say, I can't use objectdock in this conditions. Wasted my money.

By the way, in my case, I didn't install the freeware version nor a prior licensed version before installing OD 1.1, so it's not an upgrade or "remaining file" problem.

Help, please!

In the My Docks box there is NOTHING listed?

New info:
I tried installing OD in my other PC -that has a totally different hardware configuration-, and got the exact same problem. So I thought the problem was my copy of OD. But then I tried it in my father's notebook... and it worked perfectly.

I don't know what to make out of this.

Me too, I bought ObjectDock a few days ago and it worked great. Then it just so happened that I had to wipe my hard drive (not because of OD, just because the system needed it). When I reinstalled all my Stardock software on here it all seemed to work fine. Every other program works like before is functunal. But I'm having the exact same problem. I can add docks, I can add tabs, but I can't name them, change color/tab styles, or delete them. Very annoying. Was there a upgrade in the last few days? If so is there a way to get an older version till the new one works? I'm kinda fustrated. I've finally freed up enough resources on my piece of junk machine to really cut loose with this and now it's not working right.

Sorry, just came back to edit this. I was playing around a little more and it seems to me that it pretty much runs like normal except for the Manage Docks part. The tabs work fine and adding icons and changing their appearances works. No problem with the object bar either. I don't know if this'll hellp narrow it down for the techs but I hope so.

I'm having the exact same problem. The plus version of objectdock is not letting me see "my docks". This is extremely annoying, and I'm contemplating getting a refund (is this possible?). The free version worked much better. Why haven't they fixed this yet????

I have been running object dock plus for around six months.
At first I took much time to customise 4 docks. One on each side of my monitor.
Everything worked great for about two weeks.
Then I found some 3d desktop application, installed it and experimented with it.
The 3d software application destroyed everyone of the object docks I took sooooo much time to create and customise.
The 3d application was a pain to use so i immediately unistalled it.
It was at this point that I had the same exact issue that has been previously described:

The "My Docks" window shows no docks despite the fact that I have several on my screen.

After a uninstall and reinstall of the stardock application I was able to get it back up and running.
Once again the tedious process of setting up and customizing 4 docks on my monitor.
Along comes a windows update:
Zap: I now have 3 objectdocks.
Along comes another windows update:
Zap: I now have 2 objectdocks.
Along comes another windows update:
Zap: I now have 1 objectdocks.
Yes, This morning Along comes yet another windows update:
Zap: You should be able to guess.
My last objectdock is an objectdock no more.

I hope this helps paint a picture of potential key points in the application codebase that may need review.

I opened the registry and remove ALL Stardock values, and it worked fine. I was having similar problems during the transition from Shareware version to full.

Maybe I missed something, but I tried the same thing. I uninstalled EVERYTHING from Stardock, went into the registry and deleted whatever I could find that was stardock (maybe i need a full list), but when I reinstalled OD+, it did the same thing. Actually, when I first ran it, it had the "default" theme on, but it was an untabbed dock, which was how I had it at the end before I uninstalled it. That leads me to believe something was left behind. 92b16vx, if you could type up a checklist for me of what you did, I would really appreciate it. This is driving me nuts

Please let me add my name to the list of those who can't modify tabs. i believe it can summed up this way:

In ObjectDock Properties we click on the "Tabs & Styles" link. This displays a page with the words "Tabs" at the top of the window, and "Tab's Appearance" in the middle of the window. There are NO entries in either box. If one tries to create a new Tab it get's assigned the name of "New Tab" but now won't let you rename it, or apply colors to it. You can add shortcuts to the new tab with no problem.

Does that sound about right for the rest of y'all?
