More fun with 3D

Stardock is working on a 3D engine that it would use for its next generation games like Elemental, The Political Machine, Mobilization and of course any future sequel to GalCiv. ;)  You can, with the mouse wheel, scroll in so close that you can see individual windows or zoom out so far to see the whole world.

This is just prototype stuff but I thougth you'd be interested in seeing what the labs are working on.

The picture doesn't show. Is there some special setting that's supposed to be enabled to see it?

Fulgrymm: What browser are you using? Try it in IE. For some reaon Opera doesn't display it for me.

Hmm...I thought Opera supported .png.

PNG support is version dependent. Older versions of IE and netscape won't show PNG's... Opera should, but I guess it depends on the version. I think Netscape supported PNG before IE did... took MS a while to come around on the fromat. Mozilla, I *think* supported it from the start. Transparency modes and other such things are still hit-miss.

I use IE, I never use anything else. I got IE6 when I got winXP.

Huh, the problem appears to be that I can't access the joeuser website period. I tried copying the url into the browser window and got a DNS lookup error, same thing with joeuser.com. Maybe it's been hacked, that's been happening to a lot of websites lately.

More likely it's just a DNS problem with your ISP. The image and the site work just fine for me.

I love the idea of the 3d, I would love to see it implement at least in some kind of movies, like when your colony ship is about to colonize a planet, the view from space as the colony ship enters the atmosphere of the new planet and the subsequent images of landing on the planet could be add some special effects to the game, like different scenarios for different type of planets, like and icy landing, a desert landing a green forest landing a aquatic landing, etc. Also movies about certain galaxy achievements could be a plus for the game providing the players with a moment of relaxation during the game.
