Classes, and levels, and access oh my!

Where we're going..

This stuff is still in flux but you'll be able to see where we're going soon as we clean up the semantics.

When we're done a user will have 3 types of useful data displayed on them:

1) Access (how much access they have on the site)
2) Class (subscriber? registered user? etc.)
3) Experience (level 1 through infinite)

We don't have the third type implemented yet because we have to clean up the point system.  Basically your experience will be determined by the number of total points you have generated through your articles, skins, posts, comments, etc.  Think of it as your overall contribution.  This score is multiplied by your class (1 through 5).

On yoru account you'll eventually have a bar that will show you how close you are to the next level. The higher the level you are, the more you have contributed to the community and we will provide additional goodies to those people who are higher level.  The system is designed as a way for us to reward and thank people who are helping out on the site in a more objective manner.

High level users will get special icons by their name when they post and such as well as get extra "coverage" when they make new posts submit new skins and the like (though we're still working through that).  If you have any suggestions on what kinds of things you would like us to provide for people that have really helped out let us know.

I think it is a good thing that all the talented skinners around here get their well deserved recognition. However, I am a little hesitant when it comes to "experience points" and other labels being displayed as icons besides the names.

I can't help but thinking that it will cause some people to "hunt" for their points. I am a little afraid that it will cause a flooding of the forums with "What's in your bedside-drawer?" and "Tell me what you are thinking right now" threads.

I know that idea is to recognise the great work that a lot of people around here put into this site. I guess I have just seen too many people behaving rather obnoxious and flooding the board with threads and comments, just to disappear after they received their promotion.

Value should be based on content rather than volume...

What those two propose is a karma system. A system where people can rate your comments. The big risk of that is that it depends on the people voting.

Sounds ok, but some things still need fixing, like access level.

I like the ideas ... a lot. I do think aufisch is right that there will be abusers. Wish there were a way to get around that.

Jafo would have more points if he ever were to leave at all in order to come back....

I think it is a great idea, but because it involves people, there will always be abusers however this is implemented!

Ok for the beginnings i'm being optimistic about the implementation of the Experience points system. Now i'm sure that behind the pointing system there must be a whole new concept, pretty much organised. For the networking structure i'm sure you have the technical backround and the network solutions and net space,or you're surely working on to improve it.As to the fairness of the points system i'm sure you must have thought about it and you must have some kind of safety locks to support it.E.g. To avoid the obnoxious threads flooding forums i'm sure you must have hired Administrators to hadnle forums moderation,as for skins and articles,i'm pretty sure that the current system is rather ok as it is.Of course there is the commenting on skins debate, which i believe is the only one that should not be taken into account as an expression of user's experience.A skin comment i believe is somewhat personal, and beside expression of opinion i don't think is much worth of being counted as experience factor.I think the skins rates are the actual factor for counting the user's experience.Yet overall i'm sure that you are working on it and at some point, even though you can never eliminate the human factor, you'll come around it.As till now it's a great work.
