Problems with Icons and Taskbar going NUTS!!

When I go to Theme Manager and load a suite or skin…it starts to change everything and once it does, the icons and taskbar on my screen start flashing on and then off and it keeps doing this for a long time. After awhile it just stops showing the icons and taskbar at all, and all I have left is the wallpaper on the screen and my pointer. I then must reboot in safe made and reload standard settings and then reboot all over.

I have tried several different ones to see if maybe the one I was using was corrupt but it does it on all of them.

Now I have tried the components separately and this is what happens.

Lets use the Copperdeck II Icon Package – I can load that with no problem…hit ok and it works.

I can also load the Wallpaper Copperdeck II_1600 and hit ok and it works.

I can also go to the windows blinds and load the Copperdeck skin and it works, but when I load the Cursor XP CopperDeck II cursor package and hit ok, it goes into that crazy mode of flashing on and off.

I also have tried just loading the Visual Styles Copperdeck and it does the same…as in flashing on and off.

Is there something that I’m missing? Can anyone help me!

I guess by Visual Styles you mean Style XP. It would help to know your system specs. Most likely you probably have an AMD 64 processor with SP2 or you are running both windowblinds and StyleXP and are getting some weird conflicts. There could be other reasons, this is why it is helpful to give system specs when seeking help.

Sorry for not giving system specs....

Yes, I'm running an AMD 64 3200+ on a Gigabyte K8NS PRO with 512MB. I have a ATI Radeon 9600SE with 128MB DDR Memory. I'm also running the SP2 for WIN XP. I'm not sure if I'm running both windowblinds and StyleXP at the same time. Once my computer freezes I reboot and get it back to the WIN XP main theme. There are not icons in the task bar such as windowblinds, so I know that it is not running at the current time.

I just tried to use the DOGMAX style running the windowblinds program and it worked fine until I loaded up the CursorXP program and changed the cursors over to the DOGMAX cursor theme. Once I did that I had the same problems. But there was an error message that came up...it said...DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem. Do you have any idea about this?

Try these two threads and call me in the morning if you are still have problems. Also, get rid of that StyleXP is might be conflicting with windowblinds. It hacks your system files and that is not good. You can port any visual style with Skin STudio so you don't need an illegal program hacking your system. Like I said, try these two threads and call me in the morning if your computer is still ill.

Chas..... WindowBlinds are as much Visual Styles as msstyles are.......... They are both Visual Styles.
You shouldn't assume someone is using StyleXP, simply because they use the term visual styles..... a term used on the Stardock site for WindowBlinds.

These things that gave me the impression that Visual Styles/Style XP was being used in conjunction with windowblinds. Since, StyleXP is the main program used for applying Visual Styles. Most people refer to StyleXP as Visual Styles, and windowblinds as skins. I solved a problem for someone recently that was running StyleXP and Windowblinds at the same time. When they removed StyleXP, the problem went away. I only stated that running two similar programs at the same time could cause conflicts, especially when one of them is illegally hacking the OS. Please don't start jumping on me for giving reasonable advice.

There are also many resolutions where AMD64+SP2 caused the problems given in my other solution. I was thinking that fixing the one problem and removing any other illegal software, would make the operating system more stable. And, it also helps promote windowblinds as the only safe/legal alternative to skinning the OS. If you prefer StyleXP, then maybe I am wrong. But, I'll stop here.

Isn't it clear that if you want to use Visual Styles/StyleXP or windowblind skins, if you want to refer to those as Visual Styles too, that windowblinds can do both? Or are we just trying to further confuse the matter and discredit me?
