General Image Making question

I know enough about visual image editing to get me around in Photoshop and such, but i wanna know how people make their images appear to be extremely shiny. I use emboss effects in Photoshop but im not sure if thats the proper thing to use.

Check google for aqua tutorial for photoshop. It's basically done with gradients and layering.

Tweaking multiple layers in PS with styles can produce shiny results.Multiple layers will let you add more than 1 light source.Inner shadows are important.Try making 1 layer with the lower edge bevel color set to white instead of black and blended vivid instead of normal or screen.
