Object dock extreamly unstable... help!

object dock crashes constantly... sometimes my whole system... it seems to site png's but others I have seen dont have the same problem... anyone else have trouble with Object Dock? Its so unstable its barely usable...

What version do you have? If you get the latest beta, it comes with a built in crash report thing that allows you to send info to stardock as to what causes the crashes. This'll help them make more stable builds.

Hey thanx... Ill look for that. It has gotten to the point where it crashes every 5th time I bring up the dock and it crashes my system at least once a day. I am a tech for a living and my machine is VERY stable otherwise. I have tried object dock in the past and it was worse but it is still too unusable to be 1.00 anything, it REALLY feels like a early Beta or Alpha not a released product... Up until I started using ObjectDock and some other Stardock software my sys truelly never crashed, not once since I built it... I love what Stardock softwarw does but so far its just too unstable... If anyone nows any tricks to helping that on any level let me know... as I said when it works its some of the most fun software out there but when it does not it can hose the whole good feeling....

Trust me, I had the same problems you are having. Run the latest beta, and even though docklets are disabled, its as solid as a rock. Went from 5 to 6 crashes a day to none. I can have it running for days at a time, no issues. The latest beta is really good. Try it out!

I will... and on my way... Thanx for the words... I was about to uninstall cuz I needed the stability. Are the disabled docklets rebuildable or are they fully disabled? I guess my question is can I just rebuid my old dock from scratch or not? By the way CerebroJD people on forums who are open and truelly seek to help the community are the best, Thanx.

The Docklets are totally disabled in the lastest beta. They'll be turned back on after the stability problems are ironed out. There are quite a few people with problems like you describe, and some of us are luckier. OD+ seldom crashes on me, and has never taken the whole system down with it. My experience has been that when OD+ does shutdown, it has something to do with the systray dock, and MailWasher.

Strange. I don't have any problems with Stardock programs crashing. But of course I never install betas either.

It did turn out to be the Systray docklet... Which is very sad cause the docklet is what allowed me to use object bar as my Start bar replacement. I hope the bugs can be worked out soon...

From what I remember of using Object Bar in Win98, it had a systray. Use must mean ObjectDock.

Any chance you might have something else running that is causting this instability with OD? I run WB, OD+, DX and IX on ALL of my machines, including my development machine at work and I never have any problems with crashes. In fact my machine runs for weeks between reboots without the hint of a crash.. If you really like the systray option in OD+ then create yourself a tabbed dock with one tab, the tray and viola problem solved.
