The Prancing Pony

The welcome sight of a tavern greeted the weary traveler as he moved within distance of the town. Having traveled for many days, he longed for a cool mug of ale to slake his road-thirst.

As he approached the inn, he could see a sign of a fat pony rearing up on its hindlegs. The letters, THE PRANCING PONY, was painted in white.

The common room was large and rowdy. A bald and overweight innkeeper stood bent over the counter, whispering the latest gossip into the ears of a patron. On the benches were various folks, the local drunks for most part, but in corners of the taverns, he noticed there were groups drinking by themselves.

Setting himself down, the traveler handed a couple of coppers over to one of the bar wrenches for ale.

“Welcome to the Pony.” The traveler was mildly surprised to find a sprightly old man next to him, holding his gaze with keen eyes that belittled his obvious antiquity.

“Thank you, and whom do I have the pleasure of addressing?”

“Folks around here call me Ray and I do enjoy meeting up with newcomers to see if there is any assistance I could render.”

“That would be great, Ray. I would love to learn about the people who reside in these parts.”

“Ah, that’s a frequently asked question and one I’m well qualified to answer. There are a couple of factions here in Meta that you will want to watch out for.

The Pirates are currently dominant. Not the most refined of speakers but they are a jovial bunch, with a particular weakness for good drinks.

The Diplomats hold power in the Courts. Their courtiers are many but they don’t really mix with us common folks.

The Farmers are our working class. Hardworking and honest, they are however on occasion given over to overly elaborate festivals and celebrations.

The Galahs are a group of seafarers. They are also good trainers of livestock.

The Warlords are our warrior class. Their love for long campaigns leaves them frequently out of town.

The Spiders monopolise our merchant guilds. They are by far the most invertebrate bunch of traders you will ever see.

Far to the north, the Undead holds a death grip over the wastelands. I would caution you against traveling down that road.

There are many other smaller factions around, but I leave the details of those to Barley our bartender.

One of our tavern regulars, Gerakken the Spymaster, is also in the know with regards to many of the factions. So do buy him a drink if you want to find out more.”

“Thanks for the insights, Ray. But how about yourself, which faction do you belong to?”

Smiling to himself, the old man stood.

“Come round the Fellowship Halls tomorrow morning and I’ll show you around.”

Bio

The first to don the White robes of the Council, RayChua the Wizard was sent by a power from beyond to serve as a Guardian in the world of Meta. Having gathered a group of like-minded Wizards, he battled the demon Balrog and fell with it into the abyss.

His work unfinished, he returned to Meta as Ray the Wanderer. As their numbers grew to include Guardians of all races and abilities, the Fellowship was formed to continue this work that had been entrusted to them.

84787.5999999999 . . . ? Snap shot of Gone Golders Empire score. I wonder why all scores are usualy rounded off and this one isn't?

Regarding Cotal

A 'Sanguinic' who served her ealier coven by sanctifying ritual items and making cups of tea . . .

Although diminutive in stature she's prissier than royalty and perhaps at times a little pretentious in unfamiliar company . . .

Not all together at the one place at any time in particular more often than not either . . . LOL

What's this then? Will it be OK with Metaverse? (I left a mod in on my last play, hence the anomolous!)

Playing with mods is not a guarantor of the dreaded Anomalous score. The only sure way I know of triggering it is having too high of a PQ rating. You may try to resubmit that Anomalous again, this has cleared it up for others.

I play with many mods, including ones not posted in the Library. The only time I got in trouble was when I restored the two +10% PQ bonus techs at the end of the Tech tree.

It is also a common misconception that mods posted in the Library are somehow 'approved' for the Metaverse. This is not true, heck, they aren't even screened for problems as far as I know.

Stardock has stated that there is no code that explicitly checks for mods, nor is there a budget to add such code. They test for certain thresholds, exceed those and get burnt. So play with mods with moderate effects, designed to add variety, not to grant you an unfair advantage, and you will be OK.

Knowledge of Vincible’s origins is sparse. He joined the Fellowship after what he terms a “vacation” in the Ivory Tower of the plains of Vigrid, though it is known from other sources that he first took up residence in that tower eighty years ago. When asked what he did before entering the tower, or why he needed a vacation, his face tightens as if with remembered pain. He does not respond to these questions.

A powerful mage, Vincible is driven by many things, but most of all by a thirst for knowledge. He joined the Fellowship after being unable to puzzle out certain secrets of the Metaverse on his own, and has since received much aid. Unlike most mages, he shares his knowledge freely, for he believes that if he teaches others, he may make them wise enough that they might teach him in turn.

Vincible dresses simply, in comfortable robes of wool. He enjoys venison, freshly baked bread, and expensive cheeses. Usually he casts a human shadow, but sometimes he forgets to.

At last I got over 10k score :CONGRAT: These days I always play with settings: small map, painful, normal enemy alignment and military conquest only. One game lasts about six hours so if I really want I could play two games per one day :)

Someone wrote that it'd advisable always max technology. I now tried it and got +4k to my score. Whoa, it really makes a difference.

It's a pity one must play bigger maps to get more score, My attention span is too short to play those. I'll just crank these 10k scores from now on.

It's not the quality but the quantity for me LOL

*runs to play another game (but makes some coffee first)*

Way to go, Bombashaman! At the rate you are going, you will break into the Top100 in no time. :)

Yeah, researching techs gets you lots of points. Trading or capturing them don't.
Back into the Top 100 for me...course I cheesed my way in! :)

Updated vincible's backstory! Keep em coming, everybody!! :D
Reply #913 Top
Barry, would you mind putting in some form of paragraphing for my backstory on the website?

Bombashaman, good job. Two games a day? Do we have another EBZ in the making here?

Good job with your Top100 ranking, Theoden!

Theoden, I was wonder whether you have the time to reproduce the Fellowship MMORPG story on our site.

I've laid off the story for a while and am thinking of continuing. But it would really be neat if all the story posts could be collated in one site.

If you can do that, I could list you the post numbers in this thread that should go into the story page.

The Fellowship detachment arrived at the valley just as Plephart realized that he had volunteered to be bait for the Death Knights.

The five magic users in the ambush contingent, Gibbie the sorceror, Idleprocess the enchanter, Darth Bob the illusionist, Cotal the witch and Arcrest the dragonlord mage, worked hard to conjure and conceal a powerful magical trap at the mouth of the valley.

Theleb the warrior druid, Theoden the fighter, HawaiiFive-O the alchemist, Miles the warrior monk, Michael the bard and the two Jedis, Yoda and Qui-Jon took up ambush positions at the dark corners of the valley.

The rest of the Fellowship, under the leadership of the Mad Prophet, remained in their defensive positions at the Fellowship Halls, protecting Ray and the rest of the mages who were still recuperating within.

The trap set, they laid low and waited.

“Plephart! Join the rest inside” Idleprocess shouted as the ragged looking ranger came into sight.

Plephart stumbled as he ran into the valley but still he managed to catch the longbow tossed to him by Idleprocess.

Idleprocess incanted the final magical trigger, activating the trap as Plephart ran by.

The Undead captain, Cythknight, led his Death Knights straight into the trap.

A maelstrom of light, fire and power erupted as they rode through.

The two Death Knights at the flanks of Cythknight disintegrated. Cythknight and the surviving Knights rode into the valley, wounded and disorientated.

They were swiftly greeted by another wave of magical onslaught as the magic users unleashed their offensive spells upon them.

Theleb and Theoden attacked from the front, slashing the legs of the hell mounts with their battle axe and great sword. The Jedis leapt from high overcrops of the valley, their light sabers cutting a deadly arc in the air.

Michael and Plephart fired their arrows from hidden positions, their missiles true to the mark. H5O tossed his incendiary potions, lighting the dark evening sky with their multi-colored explosions.

A deep booming voice filled the valley air as Miles exhorted his fellow warriors to battle.

Cry for Death
Try for the final test
Soon it will be upon us
And cry we will
For the enticing bloodlust
of each and every kill

I must say I have goosebumps. Ray, feel free to write me in at any time.

Obi-Wan Kenobi - Jedi Knight
Keeper of the Jedi Republic Web Network and a bit of a tinkerer in his free time.

Formerly an apprentice of Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan is now a full-fledged Knight. He has branched out into a wider study of the Metaverse and has taken an interest in cataloguing and organizing a few of its goings-on. Obi-Wan is an impressive warrior, but tends to get bogged down in creative tactics against single opponents. This generally causes his fights to just take too darn long.

“Hey! A fight and I’m not invited?” A shrill shrieking voice sounded over the fury of the battle.

A small dark shape swooped down onto the mass of combatants.

“How do I get this thing to work?”

Bakka fiddled with the light saber with his little bat legs as he flew straight for a Death Knight. A pure beam of energy shot out suddenly, sending the bat into sommersaults.

“Cool! Yeah! I’m in business!”

A Death Knight screamed in agony as his severed forearm fell to the ground.

“Master Yoda, Qui Jon, good to see you here! I could have sworn I just saw the both of you in Coruscant!’’
Reply #919 Top
Obi-Wan watched as Bakka flew into battle. He had tailed the bat to the Middle Earth system, following the strong promptings from the Force which foretold disaster for the bat.

He alone saw the red bolt of energy that flew unerringly towards the bat.

Leaping from his hidden position, he barely managed to deflect the deadly beam before it burned into Bakka.

Conwraith cursed his failed attack as he materalised beside Cythknight. Vinashko the skeletal mage followed shortly, teleporting himself into the midst of the surviving Death Knights.

“Rally to me!” Vinashko screamed. The Death Knights were quick to obey, breaking their running battles to gather in a concentric ring around the mage.

Conwraith raised his ghostly arms and a deep chill ran through the gathered.

“He is reanimating the Death Knights!” Gibbie shouted in horror as severed limbs of the fallen Knights crawled to rejoin the other parts of their body.

As the Fellowship warriors and mages hastened to burn or crush the moving limbs, only H5O noticed as Vinashko incanted his Gate spell.

A glowing oval portal shimmered in and out of phase in the protective circle of Death Knights. The halls of a bone castle came intermittently into view. Within the halls, the Lich King, Paguma stood ready to enter the portal. With him were ten of his Undead Captains, each of them as powerful as the three that stood battling in the valley.

H5O knew deep within him that the tides have now turned to favor the Undead. As he fretted over his next action, he felt the presence of a person next to him.

“CariElf! Am I glad to see you!”
H5O did not see the red glint in CariElf’s eyes before it was too late.

The platinum mace, the Bug Crusher, slammed into his chest with devastating power.

The force of the blow threw the halfling alchemist backwards, his body slamming into the valley wall. H5O’s body slid down slowly, collapsing like a rag doll onto the floor.

CariElf’s eyes looked hollow as she walked stiffly towards Conwraith.

Conwraith smiled as she approached.

“Ah….. The undead toxins that I have planted into one of the pirates have somehow found their way into you. Come to me my fallen cleric, join us in the fight against the Fellowship.”

Thanks H50.

I wanted to script CariElf as a fallen cleric some time back, aka Aribeth, the fallen paladin of Neverwinter Nights. She fell after losing her lover. The funny thing was that she didn't resurrect him even though she could after he died. :D

I've got to think about the next instalments.

BTW, if anyone wants to jump in and continue, feel free to do so.

Ray,

Ever play through the storyline on single-player Warcraft III, with the fallen paladin who turns his girlfriend undead? Brrrrr...

This is all part of a master plan to have MM77 start posting in this thread, right?

Hmm, very interesting thought here, Obi-Wan.

CariElf turns her entire fanclub into Undead....
