Has your computer ever scared the sillyness out of you?

Last night at around 3am I received an email. Of course, Tiggz DX email notifier did exactly as it was programmed to do...and suddenly my room was filled with thunder and it seemed to be a downpour indoors. My wife leaped up, scared silly, wondering why this thunderstorm had suddenly rolled into our room.

The subwoofer from the Klipsch 4.1's was roaring...but I learned a new lesson...turn the speakers down when I go to bed.

It had to be one of the funniest moments in a while...but I don't think my wife would agree

No. But I scared my computer to death. I had to foddle it's personal parts to get it to reboot.

nice one ToeJo. I've done similar stuff to my Dad. Apparently, people dont like sudden noises in a quiet house in the middle of the night.

What is really scary is if you are using linux and accidently change the permissions on your main user home directory. fun stuff!

took me 3 hours today to figure out how to fix it. turned out is was just one line in the console. doh!

I click a link to one of the plebeian "portals" for games or whatever, some idiotic, stinking flash banner starts blaring a commercial or sound effects. Happens almost weekly, and it doesn't seem to matter if the volume is a reasonable level.

I'll be listening to Winamp at the same time and the banner is 5 times louder than the music.
