MS started saying they were going to deprecate the Control Panel in 2011 when Windows 8 was released. So now, 13 years later they say they’re going to do it sometime soon. Haha, I’ll believe it when I see it.
In the case of MS, it would appear that the 'depreciated' euphemism means 'under appreciated'.
We grew up with that control panel...and removing it makes me remember NASA's first efforts to create the Mercury capsule without windows. The next logical question became, "Then why do you need the best pilots?" NASA couldn't answer that one (and they threatened to leave the program). Guess who blinked?
MS has stopped its incessant "upgrade to W11" nonsense (now in use by less than 30% of PC owners) because of negatives from users. Maybe the trusty control panel can get the same crowd support?
I can't believe the control panel deserves the fate of Microsoft Bob, and Clippy.
