Community Covid-19 Check-in Post!

This is certainly an interesting time right now. I know many of us around the world are social distancing, self-quarantining, or whatever phrase you are using for it.

So let's take a moment and check-in here and let the community know how you're doing during all this.

I'll have to admit that I have a slight case of "Covid Fatigue".  Been wearing a mask for not quite a year now, fully expect to be wearing one for another year more or less.  I could do with a little less news obsession about it, way too much granularity to be useful for public consumption.

Based on the infection rates over the year 2020, I'm not confident that Covid will be a more seasonal problem such as the flu, but I don't know, maybe.  Might get to be an issue of cold weather / warm weather behavior.

At this point, I'm pretty much in the mode of "Head down, forge ahead."

Arizona's second wave of positive cases peaked on January 4th & deaths peaked January 18th; both have been rapidly dropping since.  Overall ICU bed utilization has been relatively flat but the percentage of beds used for COVID patients has plunged.

Just over a million people (state population ~7.2mil) have received at least one dose of vaccine, 375k of them have received both.  That's over a span of about 75 days.  All but the most jaded among us would have to consider that pretty damn amazing.

I got my first shot yesterday at 11am, by 4pm my arm is sore and starting to swell, hurts even more today, and I have a headache too. Also made me very sleepy, so I have been in bed most of the day. I wake up and I am shivering, so I put a bathrobe on and turn the thermostat up 1 degree. 20 minutes later I feel hot and take the bathrobe off and turn the thermostat back down.  So looking forward to that second shot next month! :-(

I had mine Wed. Moderna... arm stopped hurting yesterday.  What you experienced is listed in the side affects. It says that means your immune system is working.

I think it was the Cholera vaccine way back in the day that hurt like hell.  I remember my arm feeling like a ton of bricks...but we're talking 50 something years ago....

And yes, it means it's working...;)

Of course...Tetanus injections hurt a bit too....but if you've ever had Tetanus [I have]...you know for certain that the injections are comparatively utterly painless....;)

Since I do try to watch the news I've of course seen about a hundred videos of people getting Covid shots (and that's what I haven't fast-forwarded through ;)  ).  I keep thinking "Man, they sure do stick those needles awful far in."  I don't know, maybe that's how far in vaccine needles usually go, honestly I don't watch when I'm getting one.  Sure does seem pretty deep though.

I had tetanus once, never want it again... ever.  Was a fechen cat bite that got me... and I've not liked cats ever since.  But then, I didn't like cats beforehand... but never mind, still useful for bait when shark fishing.

;P

Nah, not really

Rusty nail in the ankle...just before my 5th birthday...;)

I was in my late twenties when I copped a dose of tetanus.... the damned cat had crapped in our kitchen and I was showing it the door when it bit me just above my right thumb.  I didn't think much of it to begin with, being a tough macho man at the time, but then I started becoming rather ill and was taken to hospital, where I was told that I had tetanus.... that no, I couldn't go shark fishing any time soon.

 ;P

No, they are not Andy. Some people have reactions, but better than getting COVID-19 for sure!

Here in the UK things are looking up for getting the vaccine rolling out. Bad news is my SO has been unwell and is getting tested for COVID. So... 2021 keeps on giving.

Arizona update:

Cases/day now under 1000 & falling quickly.  Deaths per day under 50 & falling quickly.  ICU occupancy @ 87%, only 18% of which is due to COVID patients, same as it was in April last year.  I think the 2 weeks to flatten the curve are finally over.

If the governor follows Texas, I'd be surprised to not see a small bump in cases over a few weeks but I doubt it will be worse than that.
